Kate Middleton’s Future Sister-in-Law Receives a Copycat Engagement Ring
It’s official, James Middleton is off the market. The 32-year-old entrepreneur announced his engagement to Alizee Thévenet, a French financial analyst. The couple allegedly met in the summer of 2018, and things got serious pretty quickly. While they were trying to keep their engagement quiet, word leaked out quickly. On Oct. 6, Middleton took to Instagram to share the happy news with his followers, and in doing so, let the world know that Thévenet’s engagement ring looks an awful lot like the one his sister, the duchess, has on her finger.
Alizee Thévenet’s ring looks similar to Kate Middleton’s engagement ring
Fans are ecstatic to see Middleton settle down into what seems like a happy life. The entrepreneur had once written candidly about battling depression, and in doing so, endeared himself to the public. The smiling faces of the happy couple are all fans wanted to talk about until they glanced down at the ring on Thévenet’s finger.
The gorgeous piece of jewelry might look familiar to fans of the royal family. The ring features a large dark stone surrounded by diamonds. It’s somewhat reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s engagement ring. Her ring had once belonged to Princess Diana. James didn’t share the exact specs of the ring, but it’s safe to say his sister’s piece of jewelry inspired him.
The meaning behind Kate Middleton’s engagement ring
The duchess’ engagement ring holds a lot of sentimental value for Prince William. The ring once belonged to his mother, Princess Diana. The ring features a 12-carat, oval sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, according to The Diamond Store Magazine. The stones are set in a 14-karat, white gold band.
The ring served as an engagement ring for Princess Diana, too. Upon her divorce from Prince Charles, the ring was returned to him and kept in a safe place. According to Brides, the Prince of Wales offered his sons a memento from their mother upon their death. Prince Harry picked out the engagement ring, while Prince William took one of her watches.
Allegedly, when Prince William was ready to pop the question, Prince Harry swapped keepsakes with his brother so he could use the ring to propose to Middleton. When Prince Harry was ready to propose to Meghan Markle, he designed a custom ring. The ring utilized two diamonds that once belonged to Princess Diana to ensure her memory was not forgotten.
When will the pair get married?
While Middleton was happy to share his engagement news with the world, fans likely won’t be getting details about the upcoming wedding any time soon. The pair have not announced when or where they are planning to get married, and it looks like Thévenet wants to keep things low-key.
Thévenet’s Instagram is private, and she allegedly had no idea who Middleton was when the pair met. According to Vanity Fair, Middleton spotted Thévenet at the South Kensington Club. He sent a note with a waiter asking her to grab a drink with him, and she obliged. The funny part, however, was that Thévenet had absolutely no idea who Middleton was until a friend clued her in. By that point, that had already hit it off.
They were first spotted together publicly around Christmas, but they allegedly had been spending time together for months before then. The couple didn’t mention if they plan to stay in London or if they’ll live elsewhere once they are married. For now, fans will have to be satisfied with the adorable snapshots of the pair on Middleton’s Instagram page.
