Kate Middleton celebrates the anniversary of her crisis line

The Duchess of Cambridge has been living in isolation with her husband, Prince William, and three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, at the couple’s country estate, Anmer Hall. The royals are not doing any face-to-face meetings, but they are using video calls to fulfill appointments.

On May 13, Kate and William took part in a Zoom meeting in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Shout, a crisis text line the Cambridges helped launch in 2019. Over the past year, volunteers have fielded over 300,000 texts, most of which have involved individuals under the age of 25.

Kate and William shared a clip from their video conference on Instagram. During the interview, Kate discussed quite a few things with the volunteers, including how their work has changed since the pandemic.

Apart from the video calls, Kate and William have directly helped people affected by the pandemic. This includes putting together food packages and delivering essential items to at-risk groups in their area.

While the royals are doing their part during the crisis, Kate has adopted a much more “down-to-earth” approach during her video calls.

Inside the Duchess of Cambridge’s transformation

Kate has steadily increased her royal duties over the past few years, but she has been forced to put even more on her plate in light of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit. In fact, Kate and William are quickly becoming the faces of the monarchy as they step up their game on social media.

Although other royals have participated in video calls, William and Kate have been implementing them on the regular. And unlike traditional royal engagements, the Zoom meetings are informal and are not subject to the same time restraints.

According to Express, royal experts Omid Scobie and Maggie Rulli recently discussed how technology is changing the way the royals do business. Although Kate and William will eventually get back to in-person engagements, they hope they implement some of the elements of their video calls.

“You have been on royal engagements, you know how orchestrated these events are,” Scobie shared. “So there is something really refreshing about the organic nature of these Zoom calls. I hope once this is all over we keep some of this informality on royal engagements moving forward.”

Rulli added that Kate and William have shown an “almost raw” side of themselves in the video calls, which is completely different than what royal watchers are used to seeing. We do not know if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will continue this moving forward, but it is certainly refreshing to see them in a new light.

Kate Middleton employs a new approach to her royal duties

While royal watchers are used to seeing Kate in action, a body language expert believes she has shifted the way she interacts with the public.

Also according to Express, expert Judi James believes that Kate is taking a lighter approach in her video calls, a move that could be meant to show a less formal side of the royal family.

“There are some trends and traits from Kate’s body language that suggest she is now trying to recreate the Harry ‘fun’ role herself,” James shared. “It could be a conscious decision, ie that the royal firm don’t want to be seen as the ‘stuffy royals’ now that the two glitziest and spontaneous members have left.”

James noted that the changes in Kate’s demeanor could also be caused by added stress. The body language expert believes that Kate sometimes shows a “sadder and more thoughtful-looking” expression at times.

Between the coronavirus pandemic and all the drama the royal family has faced in recent months, it is easy to see how Kate Middleton might be feeling the pressure. That said, she has also been handling the changes like a pro and seems ready for whatever challenges may come next.
