Despite rumors of a royal feud, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship appears to be stronger than ever, as new reports claim the Duchess of Cambridge plans to host a second baby shower for her sister-in-law in March. Following her lavish, $200,000 baby shower in New York City last month, Meghan Markle (and Baby Sussex) might get the royal treatment all over again — this time on behalf of aunt-to-be, Kate Middleton.
Meghan Markle’s baby shower
The Duchess of Sussex’s New York City baby shower might have broken royal protocol, but the queen doesn’t seem bothered by it. At least, that’s what we gather after reports of another baby shower surfaced. “There is still going to be some sort of private baby-centric even for Meghan’s U.K. people, and Kate will host,” a royal insider dished to Us Weekly.
Here’s what we know about the alleged party.
It won’t be as traditional as her first celebration
Meghan Markle’s second baby shower most likely won’t be as upscale or traditional as her first shower. After all, baby showers aren’t really a thing in the royal family. “Not sure if it’s a total baby ‘shower,’ but you could probably call it that,” Us Weekly’s source explained. That said, Kate Middleton comes from a party planning background (her parents own a party decor business!) so the celebration will, without a doubt, be spectacular.
The royal family is notorious for teas and luncheons, so it’s likely that, if Kate Middleton is throwing a second shower for the Duchess of Sussex, she is planning something a little more casual and in the afternoon for tea time.
Does Meghan Markle have a baby registry?
The Duchess of Sussex might have been spoiled by friends at her New York City baby shower, but she likely won’t have the same experience in the United Kingdom. Royals already view the whole baby shower tradition as somewhat tacky and think that it is inappropriate to register for gifts when they can afford to go out and by their baby goods themselves.
Who is invited to Meghan Markle’s second baby shower?
A few important people — including Doria Ragland — were absent from Meghan Markle’s baby shower in New York City. Could they be in attendance this time around? Us Weekly’s source confirms that “her glam people and other relatives will be there.”
Doria Ragland has plans for an extended United Kingdom stay this spring. And, if her trip aligns with Kate Middleton’s plans, she very well could join her daughter in celebration of her first grandbaby. In addition to Doria Ragland, some members of the family might attend (including Princess Eugenie, who Meghan Markle has a close relationship with).
Will the queen attend?
Baby showers might not be a thing in the royal family but, that doesn’t mean the queen won’t attend one. Kensington Palace has yet to confirm reports of a second baby shower for the Duchess of Sussex, let alone whether or not the queen will join in on her granddaughter-in-law’s celebration. However, if reports are true, we can’t see why not!
The queen is reportedly fond of Meghan Markle and looking forward to another great-grandchild.
