Well, there’s no more “bad blood” between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. (Get it? *slaps knee*)
The singers fell out in 2014 and allegedly went on to snub each other in tracks like “Bad Blood” and “Swish Swish.” But now, things are cool again. The singers even reunited in June for the video of Swift’s single “You Need to Calm Down,” wearing matching outfits.
Perry is now opening up about the years-long feud and the road to recovery. In a July 16 interview with The Kyle & Jackie O Show, the “Fireworks” singer said that she agreed to make amends under one (very bizarre) condition.
Why she chose to reach out to Swift
Perry told the hosts that she decided to send the “Blank Space” singer a literal olive branch in 2018 ahead of her Reputation tour because she felt she “needed the support.”
“I just thought, you know, she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support,” Perry said. “And truly, it was like, as I was finishing [my tour], I realized how much we have in common. And maybe [there are] only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from, and that we should celebrate our commonality and our friendship and to be able to be there for each other,” she explained.
They’d seen each other at parties, so she approached her, apologized, and then they exchanged numbers.
“I just went up to her, and I was like, ‘Hey, you know, it’s been a long time and I think we’ve grown up a little bit and I just wanted to say I’m sorry and that I’m really here for you and that I love you. And, you know, I hope that we can be friends in the future,’” Perry continued.
Swift then invited Perry over to her house
But the “Dark Horse” crooner told Swift that she wouldn’t come over unless she could hold Swift’s cat, Benjamin Button.
“I said, ‘The only way I’m coming to your house is if I can hold your new cat,’” she continued.
Not only did Swift let her hold Benjamin Button, but she also made the singer a plate of cookies.
These are the baked goods:
Sweet! Who knew cats and cookies were the answers to such problems?
What Swift has said about their reconciliation
Swift told BBC Radio in June that it became “very clear to [them] that everything was different.” She continued, “We had grown past allowing ourselves to be pitted against each other.”
“It just was really, really clear that we remembered how much we had in common,” she added. “Both of us have been in a really good place for a while, but I don’t think [we] really knew if we were gonna talk about it publicly.”
They did more than talk about it — they proved it. In the video for “You Need to Calm Down,” Perry and Swift look happier than ever to see each other. The video ends with them sharing a bear hug.
We’re not crying — you are.
