Will Keanu Reeves Be In The ‘John Wick’ Spinoff Show, ‘The Continental’?

We know that Marvel lore is one of the hottest things on people’s minds right now but let us not forget about Keanu Reeves. Specifically, John Wick. John Wick: Chapter 3 continues to hit milestones and due to its wild success, John Wick: Chapter 4 has been guaranteed.

But the franchise creators are giving fans another gift in the form of a television spinoff: The Continental. Be honest, you’d love to see what else goes on with that luxury hotel and all its special rooms, floors, and guests. New tales will be told about the underground world in The Continental, but can we expect to see Reeves show up to ring the desk bell as John Wick?

Show will serve as an origin story

Done well, origin stories are not only the introduction to a world or character, but the launchpad for multiple branches of a mythology to unfold. Airing on the Starz network, The Continental will explore the hotel’s beginnings and serve as a prequel to the John Wick series. The Wrap reported that Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch spoke on the show’s direction during the Television Critics Association summer press tour:

” ‘The Continental’ will be way earlier in the history of the series. It will be a fresh look at The Continental as the hotel and how that came into the being of John Wick. It’s way back in terms of the timing.”

Since the series will take place before the events of the John Wick movies, that begs the question of whether or not fans will get to see our favorite hitman hit the TV screen.

Starz execs are mum on the cast

One of the things that is known is that The Continental will likely not premiere until after the fourth John Wick movie. According to Deadline, Chapter 4 will arrive in theaters in May 2021, indicating that Reeves might be available to film the spinoff. But Hirsch refuses to confirm if the action star will make an appearance in The Continental:

“My sense is that where we are today, the movie date has been set but we’re still in early development on the series so it will most likely after.”

And on Reeves being in the show:

“That’s a really good question that I’m not going to answer. No answer is as good a tease you’re going to get. It’s a great franchise, we’re excited about bringing that show to the network.”

What was shared is that the show already has part of its team in place. John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad is joining with showrunner/writer Chris Collins and John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski. And Keanu Reeves is among the names on the executive producers’ list. So, he’s definitely involved with the TV project!

Our guess? John Wick’s life before he lost his wife and puppy isn’t off the table for the new series, and can tie in with establishing the hotel’s history, the assassins’ code of conduct, and how things are run with High Table. Whether Reeves is in The Continental or not, it will still be worth a watch.
