It’s hard to trust what you can and can’t believe when it comes to reality television. Some things are staged and scripted without the audience knowing. Keeping Up With the Kardashians also plays tricks on its audience. The show has been called out for filming things out of order and it should be kept in mind that they have a say when it comes to editing. But are their homes even real on the show? Here is everything to know whether the homes on the show are really owned by the stars.

They use homes they don’t actually live in for exterior shots for safety

The family claims that they do really film in their own homes. However, when accused that they use fake homes for the show Kim Kardashian clarified that the exterior shots of homes seen aren’t the ones they live in. This is so there wouldn’t be a dead give away on where they live.

“When we film inside, that’s obviously our real home,” she wrote according to OK! “My old home in Beverly Hills was really my home and I would get people showing up at all hours ringing my gate and had to call the police on several occasions.” She also added, “People hoping [sic] the gate & scaring me. It was so unsafe. The Hollywood star tours would stop by too, bc they recognized my home from our show.”

Once this started happening that’s when “fake” houses started being used for exterior shots. So where does the family actually live?

The Kardashians and Jenners live close together in several communities

A part of the Kardashians and Jenners being so close is that they all live in the same gated community. It is called The Estates at the Oaks in Calabasas, and Kylie Jenner, Khloé, and Kourtney Kardashian live there, according to E! News.

Multiple family members including Kris and Kylie Jenner also bought homes in a gated community called Calabasas’ Hidden Hills. They have other family members live with them for an extended period of time as well. Kim and Kanye West lived with her mother when their home was being renovated. Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian rented Kylie Jenner’s Hidden Hills home after they had their daughter, Dream.

So what happens to the houses that were just used for exterior shots, but weren’t actually lived in by the reality stars? One that was specifically used for Kris Jenner’s house on the show was used for other shows including Chelsea Lately, True Blood and American Horror Story. It then was up for sale but took 11 years for it to finally be sold. That might not bode well for business when it comes to the other properties.

So the celebrity family is letting people into their homes on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. But they aren’t showing the outside of them to avoid the attraction of home tours and people trying to trespass.
