Kelly Clarkson Performs Hit Christina Aguilera Cover On Her New Talk Show
It finally happened: two singing powerhouses, Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera, teamed up to cover a legendary song. Well, sort of. If you haven’t caught The Kelly Clarkson Show yet, prepare to set your inner ’00s child free.
Kelly Clarkson opens every episode of her talk show with a cover
Fact: Clarkson sings on every show. “A person in the audience picks the song, and I come down and talk to that person,” she said. “Then we talk to the audience about maybe something that happened that day before we start having guests come out.”
It sounds great, but there is one thing she struggles with — remembering lyrics. In an interview with Jenny McCarthy, Clarkson confessed to having memory problems since childhood. Now, she uses printed lyric sheets or teleprompters so she doesn’t forget.
Of the songs she’s covered, Clarkson told The Ellen DeGeneres Show the biggest challenge so far was covering Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” saying, “It was so bad, but whatever. Challenge accepted. I’ll sing anything.”
She admitted it’s a lot of work but that she “genuinely loves artists and music and celebrating art.” Other songs she belted out include Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker” and Sia’s “Chandelier.”
Kelly Clarkson performed a classic Aguilera hit
The two pop stars didn’t team up per se, but Kelly covered one of Aguilera’s 2006 Back to Basics hit, “Ain’t No Other Man.” That isn’t all. Aguilera was a guest on the show, inviting Clarkson to sing with her during her Las Vegas residency, which was extended through 2020.
“That makes me nervous,” Clarkson replied. “I would love to!” Considering Clarkson has her own YouTube channel called Kellyoke, and Aguilera this duo is everything the world needs, and more.
Kelly and Christina Have A Lot In Common
Aside from having kick-butt vocals, both Clarkson and Aguilera are juggling mom and work life while on tour. “I got really scared, I’m like, how do people do this?” Aguilera, mom to 11-year-old Max and 5-year-old Jordan, told Clarkson on the show. She also confessed to putting off a tour for 10 years to be “mom” which is pretty incredible.
Aguilera also alluded to the fact that kids need routines and schedules, which aren’t always possible on tour. Kelly agreed, especially as she balances the talk show and her time as a coach on The Voice.
She’s a mom to 5-year-old River, 3-year-old Remington, and two step-children from husband Brandon Blackstock’s previous marriage, Savannah, 18, and Seth, 12.
Aguilera added that the glamor of touring wears off when your kids are right there. “And then you’re off stage and you’re like, ‘Oh, the bedtime stories. Okay. Almost there.'”
Any pop music fan can appreciate Clarkson’s rendition of “Ain’t No Other Man.” It poses the question, what can’t she sing?
