Kevin Hart & Katy Perry Defend Ellen DeGeneres Amidst Backlash
Kevin Hart and Katy Perry have both gone out of their way to defend Ellen DeGeneres amidst her recent backlash, and fans are pissed. DeGeneres first came under fire back in March when she was accused of being a “mean” person. When a comedian offered donations in exchange for stories about the talk show host, many people opened up about their less than favorable experiences with her. It seemed that plenty of people had examples of the comedian not behaving in the kind manner which she touts. Former fans, industry professions, and even a former bodyguard spoke out about DeGeneres’ character.
How the mean rumors escalated
But DeGeneres being called “mean” was only the tip of the iceberg. The 62-year-old was also called out for creating a toxic work environment for The Ellen Degeneres Show. Employees cited poor communication and treatment as some of the major grievances they had about working for the show. Naturally, this complaint didn’t help DeGeneres’ image.
The comedian issued a statement in response to claims that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ is a toxic environment
When the allegations that The Ellen DeGeneres Show was a toxic environment persisted, DeGeneres released a statement to her crew. That statement was then leaked to the public. Many people felt that the comedian’s response was inadequate. Former fans and critics accused the talk show host of failing to apologize adequately or take any responsibility for the environment that she helped create. This only increased DeGeneres’ backlash.
Portia de Rossi defends her wife
Things got so bad that DeGeneres’ wife, Portia de Rossi made public statement to defend her wife. But, other than de Rossi, many celebrities have chosen not to speak on the matter. However, that has all changed as both Hart and Perry have jumped to the comedian’s defense via public statements on their social media platforms.
Kevin Hart speaks out on Instagram
“It’s crazy to see my friend go thru what she’s going thru publicly,” Hart began about DeGeneres in a lengthy Instagram post. “I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the fu*king planet. She has treated my family and my team with love and respect from day 1,” Hart shared, inferring that his personal experiences with the talk show host are at odds with “mean” rumors.
“The Internet has become a crazy world of negativity….we are falling in love with people’s downfall,’ Hart stated, continuing on. “It’s honestly sad…When did we get here? I stand by the ones that I know and that I love. Looking forward to the future where we get back to loving one another….this hate sh*t has to stop. Hopefully, it goes out of style soon…This post is not meant to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences…It’s simply to show what my experiences have been with my friend. Love you for life Ellen,” the Seriously Funny star concluded.
Katy Perry shows her support for DeGeneres on Twitter
Perry also took to Twitter to express her own personal sentiments about DeGeneres. “I know I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own but I want to acknowledge that I have only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @theellenshow,” the “Firework” artist began.
“I think we all have witnessed the light & continual fight for equality that she has brought the world through her platform for decades. Sending you love & a hug, friend @TheEllenShow,” Perry concluded about DeGeneres. Naturally, fans of both Perry and Hart took issue with their posts. They felt that their celebrity status guaranteed that DeGeneres wouldn’t treat them poorly and they were attempting to invalidate others’ issues with the host. Only time will tell if any other celebrities rush to support DeGeneres. But, it seems as if her slew of bad press isn’t ending anytime soon.
