Khloé Kardashian’s First Heartbreak Happened When She Ended This Relationship, She Once Revealed

When it comes to tumultuous relationships, Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s marriage takes the cake. The couple was married for a few short years before their relationship took a turn for the worst, prompting the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star to file for divorce.

But despite being the one to end their relationship, the separation took a significant toll on Kardashian. So much so, that she considers her divorce from the athlete to be her greatest heartbreak to date.

A quick recap of Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s relationship

If you’ve been following Kardashian for a while now, then you likely know all about her whirlwind romance with Lamar Odom.

The pair met in 2009 at a nightclub. Though Kardashian wasn’t interested in the NBA player initially, she later admitted in a 2011 interview that she soon fell for his heart and smiled after getting to know him.

Following their initial encounter, Kardashian and Odom dated, got engaged, and tied the knot all within a month. Shortly after, the couple received a spinoff show on E! about their new life together, called Khloe and Lamar.

The pair seemed super into one another, and fans were cautiously optimistic that they had a long and happy marriage ahead. Unfortunately, Odom was secretly battling with drug addiction, which, along with cheating, ultimately destroyed his marriage to Kardashian.

The Good American founder filed for divorce from the basketball player in December 2013, but proceedings were put on hold when he overdosed in a Nevada brothel in October 2015.

Instead of going through with the divorce, Kardashian chose to withdraw her petition to separate from her estranged husband while he was recovering in the hospital. Their pair’s divorce was eventually finalized in December 2016, nearly seven years after they exchanged vows.

Khloé Kardashian’s divorce from Lamar Odom was her first experience with heartbreak

Though splitting from Odom was for the best, divorcing the athlete took a toll on Kardashian.

Since he was her first husband, the NBA player had a special place in the reality star’s heart, so calling it quits from him wasn’t easy for her to do. Kardashian’s even admitted that the divorce was difficult, noting it was her first-ever experience with heartbreak.

“(The divorce from) Lamar was so hard for me, it was the first time I had my heart broken, and I put my all into my marriage,” she said while speaking with Laura Wasser on the Divorce Sucks! podcast in 2019.

Though getting over her split from Odom was no easy feat, Kardashian went on to say that she learned many lessons following their separation, but mainly that “healing” is possible after a breakup.

“What I’ve learned from my ex-husband is that you’ll be OK. I really think you should go through your feelings,” she continued. “Knowing I could survive that, I would rather experience those moments of greatness than never experience it. Life is about love, you’ll find someone again once you heal.”

The divorce from Odom hasn’t put Khloé Kardashian off from marrying again

Though Kardashian has since gotten back into the dating scene and is now making strides in her relationship with Tristan Thompson, getting married again isn’t something she’s looking to do anytime soon.

While she hasn’t let her divorce from Odom put her off from potentially tying the knot in the future, Kardashian wants to continue working on herself and living in the moment rather than rushing into marriage.

“I’m so in love with True. It sounds like the typical answer, but I’m working on myself – mind, body, and soul,” she told Wasser.
