At the center of the scandal is a man named William Rick Singer who was paid roughly $25 million by parents to help their children get into the schools. Now –people and celebrities alike are weighing in on the scandal. This is what Kim Kardashian had to say.
How does Kim Kardashian feel about the college admissions scandal?
In the past, Kim Kardashian has been criticized for not recognizing her privilege. However, it seems like the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is doing the work to understand her position in the world and how it differs from others. During a recent interview on the Van Jones Show–the KKW Beauty mogul was asked about the college admissions scandal. She said,
For me, I would never. If they couldn’t get into a school, I would never want to use privilege to try to force them into a situation where that they wouldn’t thrive in anyway. So, that’s where I just see that that is not appropriate. It’s just, when you have so much accessible, so many things that are just presented to you. I want my kids to be kind, I want them to be as grounded as possible, and to buy your way into something just wouldn’t benefit anybody…. To me even having my kids see me studying, leaving and going into an office a few days a week. Studying all the time, coming home. I have my backpack, they have my backpack, they’re studying, I’m studying.
Did Kim Kardashian go to college?
Kim Kardashian did not finish college. She dropped out and got married at 19. However, she is currently doing a four-year apprenticeship with a San Francisco law firm. The soon-to-be mom of four is planning to take the bar exam in 2022. She told Van Jones, “Even though I’m in my late thirties and I’m just finishing college, or attempting to do that now, it’s never too late and there really is never an easy way out.”
Is Kim Kardashian becoming a lawyer?
In her May 2019 cover interview with Vogue –Kim Kardashian announced that she is studying to become a lawyer. She revealed that she was inspired by the work she did on Alice Maria Johnson’s case. Johnson was freed last year after serving 20-years on a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Kardashian explained,
I had to think long and hard about this. The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency, and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, sh *t. I need to know more. I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case. It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.
Under California law –Kardashian can practice as a lawyer without having a college degree. It is known as “Reading the law”. This means that the KUWTK star only has to pass the bar exam through self-study.
