Kim Kardashian Replaces North West’s Dead Hamster with a Look-Alike Getting Away with Classic Parenting Move
In a classic parenting move, Kim Kardashian replaced North West’s beloved hamster, Blacktail, with a look-alike when it died. During last night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the mother of four revealed her daughter still believes the look-alike is her original pet. Keep reading to get all the details on how Kardashian replaced her daughter’s hamster.
Kim Kardashian discovered the dead hamster while North was at school
Michael, Kardashian’s assistant, broke the news to her about Blacktail while she was at her home in Calabasas, California. In disbelief, she walked over the hamster’s caste-shaped cage sitting on her kitchen counter, thinking Blacktail may have simply been asleep.
Meanwhile, Kardashian had her sister Khloe Kardashian on the phone.
“It’s dead?” Kardashian asked her assistant. Khloe heard the comment and replied,“What?!” to which Kardashian said, “I don’t have time for a dead hamster. Maybe he’s sleeping.”
Upon further inspection — they poked the hamster who sat unmoving — Kardashian and Michael confirmed the hamster was in fact, dead.
“[North] is at school. I don’t know how I’m going to say, ‘And by the way, your hamster died,’” Kardashian explained on the show.
“North is gonna be really, really upset,” she added. “It’s just not fair. How do I go and explain this? What do I do?”
Khloe and Kim went to pet stores in search of look-alike hamster
Panicked, Kardashian went searching for a look-alike at pet stores with the help of Khloe, who purchased the hamster for her niece.
“It’s the first time [North has] really, really loved an animal more than her dog,” Kardashian told her sister.
“She’s still into it, and I don’t know what to do,” she added. “It’s just this kind of s**t I can’t deal with. This is why you don’t get someone a pet. Don’t ever do this to me again, I literally hate you.”
The sisters went to a local pet store in search of what’s called a “fancy bear hamster,” which, as Khloe explained in an interview for the show, is a rare breed.
After checking multiple stores, they finally found a hamster that had a passing resemblance to Blacktail.
So, how did Kardashian replace Blacktail without North noticing? She invented a clever cover story. She told North that Blacktail had gone to see a veterinarian — like North had asked her to do — who could confirm whether or not it was sleeping as five-year-old North had believed.
North didn’t want to believe Blacktail had died. She continued to hold the hamster and pet the hamster thinking it was asleep, not dead.
Kim Kardashain revealed she got away with replacing dead hamster
Responding to a tweet, Kardashian revealed her daughter never figured out that she replaced her dead hamster with a look-alike.
But don’t expect Kardashian to replace Blacktail 2.0 (the look-alike’s name) when it passes away. During Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she said she’d explain the cycle of life to North when this one died.
