Will Kim Kardashian West Keep Her Last Name After Divorcing Kanye West?
Throughout the 2010s, Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West were one of Hollywood’s biggest power couples. West continued his successful music career, while Kardashian West began expanding her empire beyond reality TV and into beauty and apparel products. But there seems to be trouble in paradise.
Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West’s marriage is on the rocks
According to Page Six, West and Kardashian West are heading to Splitsville. They’ve had several bumps in the road along the way, but it seems that things are serious this time.
“This divorce is happening because Kim has grown up a lot,” a source close to the matter said. “She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign.”
“Meanwhile Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy sh*t, and she’s just had enough of it,” the source added. “Kim got Kanye to go up there [to Wyoming] so they could live separate lives and quietly get things sorted out to separate and divorce. She’s done.”
West had several public meltdowns throughout 2020, including making a longshot run for president and revealing that Kardashian West wanted to have an abortion when she was pregnant with daughter North. He began criticizing his in-laws’ “white supremacist” actions and likened their treatment of him to Jordan Peele’s horror flick Get Out.
Several rumors were flying around about Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West
While it appears that Kardashian West and West simply seem ready to move on from each other, several rumors about what is really happening in their marriage have cropped up since the news first broke.
One of the most ridiculous rumors was started by a viral TikToker who claimed to have insider knowledge that West had been unfaithful to his wife with beauty guru and YouTuber Jeffree Star. Many pointed to the fact that both West and Star are now happily living in Wyoming as proof that they were seeing each other. But the makeup mogul since denied the rumors were true.
Even Star acknowledged that things could’ve been easily misconstrued, as the former artist once shouted out the Grammy-winning rapper in a song back in 2009.
The fate of Kim Kardashian West’s last name
With the Kardashian-West family on the brink of falling apart, fans are wondering if Kardashian West will keep her married last name in addition to her maiden name. This includes the fate of her makeup and skincare line, KKW Beauty, which obviously uses her married initials.
Kardashian West hasn’t even acknowledged the rumors of their split, let alone what she plans on doing with everything they share — including the West last name. But according to the couple’s prenup agreement, Kardashian West may be in the clear to continue using her married last name for profit without any legal repercussions.
The prenup reportedly states that “Money she earns from… the Kardashian clothing line and promotional appearances will be considered her separate and sole income,” according to Page Six. Aimee Gold, a high-profile family lawyer in Los Angeles, said this language could prevent West from making a claim on Kardashian West’s businesses.
There could be language in the couple’s prenup that says, “‘no good will,’ which means there is no capitalization on their [shared] name,” Gold said. So even though the company is called KKW, it’s still categorized as solely her business. “That means just because [her] last name is West,” Gold added, “that doesn’t give him any access.”
