‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’: Kim Kardashian Explained the Hilarious Reason North West Wanted to Go Camping
On the latest episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian and her oldest daughter, North West, went camping for a hilarious reason. Keep reading to learn why North wanted to go camping so badly and why Kardashian agreed to do something that wasn’t her thing.
Why North West wanted to go camping
Kardashian isn’t known for her love of camping and is the first person to say so. During an interview on the show, she said she didn’t like camping, explaining that it’s an activity she had no interest in doing.
“I’m not the most outdoorsy kind of girl, so I hope that this is just something that [North] forgets about,” Kardashian said.
“Camping is literally the last thing in my life that I want to do,” she also said. “I don’t know how I’m going to build a tent. I just don’t do that.”
She further explained that because camping became important to North, she reluctantly agreed to camp out for one night with her daughter, two of her friends, and their mothers at Lake Hemet.
While telling others about North’s desire to go camping, Kardashian revealed her daughter became fixated on the idea after watching The Parent Trap (she didn’t say which version North had watched but we’re guessing the 1998 version with Lindsay Lohan and Dennis Quaid).
The group almost cut their camping trip short
After the moms — Larsa Pippen, Tracy Romulus, and Kardashian — along with their daughters — Sophia, Ryan, and North — struggled to pitch a tent in the cold and windy weather (they finally did), they went for a ride on a pontoon boat and did some fishing then roasted hot dogs over a fire back at their campsite.
Larsa must’ve literally gotten cold feet about the camping trip because after they turned in for the night, she got out of her sleeping bag and told the rest of the group she and her daughter were heading back home to the warmth of her own bed.
With some convincing, she stayed with the rest of the group and they stuck it out until morning. Although they want to get out of there as quickly as possible. They didn’t have breakfast and as Kardashian explained in another interview during the episode, they wanted to stop at Starbucks and all looked forward to taking showers once they got home.
The lesson Kardashian hoped she taught North on the camping trip
Even though the camping trip didn’t go quite as smoothly as she’d wanted, Kardashian hoped her daughter walked away from the experience with more than memories of being grossed out by worms on a hook.
“We survived. We’re not staying for breakfast — we want to go to Starbucks, we want to get home and get in the shower. We did it!” Kardashian said after the trip.
She added that even though it wasn’t her idea of a fun getaway, she wanted North to learn about commitment.
“I’m glad we got Larsa to stay because I really wanted to show the kids there’s not always an easy way out. If we agree to something and we commit to something, then we’re going to follow through with that.”
But don’t expect Kardashian to go camping again soon if she has anything to say about it.
“But I hope North doesn’t think it’s a tradition and that we have to go every year, because that’s not going to happen,” she said.
Maybe North will camp out in the backyard of the Kardashian-West family’s Calabasas home if she gets the urge to reenact part of The Parent Trap again. She’ll know where to find her mom; indoors where there are electricity and indoor plumbing.
