Kim Kardashian Wants You to Stop Believing This Lie About Her
When Kim Kardashian first became a household name, no one could have ever expected that one day she’d become a lawyer. Even though her father was an accomplished lawyer, everyone assumed that Kardashian didn’t have the capacity to follow his footsteps.
She’s proving everyone wrong. In just a few more years, Kardashian will likely have her law degree. However, she still has plenty of misconceptions to battle.
Kim Kardashian will become a lawyer without finishing college
Kardashian has long dreamed about following in her father‘s footsteps and becoming a lawyer. Although she’s been able to help people, like Alice Johnson, without her law degree, she feels that she’d be able to accomplish a lot more with it.
“I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society,” Kardashian told Vogue last April. “I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”
Although Kardashian is keen to study law, she won’t actually have to finish college to do it. California has a program where a person with at least 60 college credits can study law through an apprenticeship program. Kardashian didn’t earn her bachelor’s degree in college, but she did earn 75 credits, more than enough for her to qualify for this program. She’ll be studying with two attorney mentors: Jessica Jackson and Erin Haney.
Kim Kardashian isn’t buying her way into a law career
Since Kardashian isn’t taking the traditional route to a law degree, many who don’t understand the program have accused her of buying her way into the career. But that simply isn’t true — or even possible.
As Kardashian pointed out in an Instagram post, she still has plenty of studying ahead of her.
“Last year I registered with the California State Bar to study law. For the next 4 years, a minimum of 18 hours a week is required, I will take written and multiple-choice tests monthly,” Kardashian explained in an Instagram caption. “As my first year is almost coming to an end I am preparing for the baby bar, a mini version of the bar, which is required when studying law this way.”
As you can see, the program Kardashian is getting her law degree through is far from the easy route. And, it’s not about money: Anyone can access a career this way.
“I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or money that got me here, but that’s not the case,” Kardashian continued in her Instagram post. “The state bar doesn’t care who you are. Everyone can take this route if you live in a state where this is allowed.”
Why do people not take Kim Kardashian seriously?
The misconception that Kardashian is buying her law degree, or doesn’t have to be as smart or work as hard as anyone else to get it, is something she wants people to understand. In a recent interview with her husband, Kanye West, for Vogue Arabia, Kardashian explained the lie that she wishes everyone would stop believing about her.
“There is a misconception that I don’t actually have to study and that I’ve bought my way into getting a law degree – that’s absolutely not true…” Kardashian said. “Being underestimated and over-delivering is my vibe.”
People certainly underestimate her, and maybe, in the long run, it will work to her advantage. If no one is expecting Kardashian to make a difference, they won’t stand in her way.
