Kim Kardashian West Breaks Down $120,000 Cost of Surrogacy

Kim Kardashian West is opening up about the surrogacy process.

On the Feb. 11 episode of All’s Fair, the podcast from Laura Wasser, Kardashian West spoke about her pregnancy experiences, her family, and the cost of surrogacy, according to People.

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West have four kids

The 39-year-old KKW Beauty founder shares two boys and two girls — daughters North and Chicago, sons Saint and Psalm — with Kanye West, her rapper and fashion designer husband.

The couple welcomed North in June 2013 before getting engaged in Oct. of that year. The following year they married in a lavish and private ceremony sans cameras for Keeping Up with the Kardashians (KUWTK), the Kardashian-Jenner family’s long-running reality series.

They became parents again two years later in Dec. 2015 when Kardashian West gave birth to their son, Saint.

Hiring a surrogate could cost up to $80,000

On the podcast, Kardashian West talked about the possibility of having more kids — she doesn’t think it’s likely — and broke down the cost of surrogacy. For her and West, money isn’t an issue. Kardashian West has an estimated net worth of $350 million while West isn’t a billionaire like he once said. His fortune is said to hover around $240 million. Clearly, the couple can explore any pregnancy options because they have the financial means to do so.

Kardashian West estimated the cost of the entire surrogacy process during her conversation with Wasser saying in total it could cost up to $120,000.

“I would say the cost to [hire] the surrogate would be anywhere between 50 and $80,000. And I would say it costs about $10,000 to retrieve your eggs and to get the embryos [and] it costs about $3,000 to do the extra genetic testing [of the embryos],” Kardashian West said. “I would say it would cost max $120,000 if you maybe use a broker, and I would say, minimum, maybe $80,000. So it is definitely a large expense.”

She continued saying her surrogates “were extremely grateful for the opportunity” noting that “more than half” of the candidates she saw were from military families who found comfort in the surrogacy process because they could make money for their families.

Pregnancy complications for Kardashian West led to surrogacy

Kardashian West carried North and Saint but following pregnancy complications, doctors advised the mogul to use surrogacy if she were to have children in the future. During her pregnancies, the reality star and founder of Skims experienced placenta accreta, a threatening condition.

Parts of Kardashian West’s pregnancies were documented on KUWTK. When she told her family she and her husband were thinking about growing their family, her mother Kris Jenner voiced her concern in light of Kardashian West’s health concerns during her first two pregnancies.

Ultimately, the 39-year-old and her husband used a surrogate for their third and fourth children. They welcomed a daughter named Chicago, on Jan. 15, 2018, via a surrogate. Then again in May 2019 with the birth of Psalm West.
