Kim Kardashian West Called 16-Year-Old Climate Change Activist Greta Thunberg ‘Brave and Amazing’
It’s hard to turn on the news these days without hearing about 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg. The teenaged activist is quickly becoming one of the most well-recognized faces in the movement, and that’s saying a lot considering how much attention this issue receives.
Everyone from politicians and celebrities to regular citizens are taking a stance on climate change. And now everyone’s favorite reality star Kim Kardashian West is weighing in on how she feels about it — and what she thinks of Thunberg.
Kim Kardashian West is making climate change one of her causes
Kardashian West has come a long way from being considered a self-absorbed, out of touch celebrity who only cares about looking good for the camera. The past several years proved that she’s got more depth than anyone realized.
Most recently, Kardashian West made an appearance at the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Yerevan, Armenia. Remember, Kim Kardashian West celebrates her Armenian ancestry and even had three of her four children baptized at an Armenian cathedral during her trip.
Kardashian West is impressed by Greta Thunberg
During an interview, Kardashian West expressed interest in having dinner with Thunberg at some future date. “She (Thunberg) is such an amazing young girl, and so brave and courageous to stand up to these grown-ups that can be very scary and for her to be so open and honest is exactly what we need,” Kardashian told Reuters.
Kardashian West also concluded that climate change is a “serious problem.” And she deeply admires Thunberg’s bravery for not staying silent. “Speaking on a big platform invites a lot of different opinions,” Kardashian said.
This isn’t the only cause Kim Kardashian West supports
It’s not just climate change on Kardashian West’s mind. Lately, she’s also taken up the cause of prison reform and is even studying for the bar exam so she can personally help champion people who are wrongly incarcerated or unfairly punished for petty crimes.
“Some of the (most) enlightened people I’ve ever met, smartest people, people that know law the best, are people that are spending time in prison,” Kardashian West said.
Earlier this year, Kardashian West met with President Donald Trump to request a pardon for Alice Johnson, a woman serving a life sentence for a low-level drug conviction.
Kardashian West said she’s not interested in politics
With so many political causes, some Kar-Jenner fans are wondering if Kardashian West will follow in the footsteps of some other celebrities who got involved in politics. But she says that’s not going to happen.
“No, I don’t think so,” Kardashian West said when asked if she’d consider running for office one day. “It would be probably the most stressful job in the world, and I don’t think that’s for me.”
“I guess never say never, but that’s not going to be like a ‘Kim’s running!’ That’s not where I’m, what I’m going for. I just want to help, starting one person at a time,” she continued.
“I think sometimes if more people would just put their personal feelings aside and talk about real issues that have to be discussed, then so much more can get done.”
