Kim Kardashian West Gets Candid About Her Pregnancy Complications; “I Had the Same Awful Delivery”

Kim Kardashian West may be the proud mother of four beautiful children, but her journey to motherhood wasn’t easy in the slightest.

In a candid Instagram video as part of SKIMS’ new 2019 holiday campaign, the reality star opens up her past pregnancy struggles and the hardships she went through when it came time to deliver her first two kids.

Pregnancy was not an enjoyable experience for Kardashian

Kardashian West has never been afraid to open up about her life with fans and her latest Instagram post just proves that she doesn’t just get raw and honest on television.

On December 12, the reality star took to Instagram to promote her new holiday campaign that features the inspiring stories of nine women, including herself, and the causes they believe in.

For Kardashian’s story, she opened up about her pregnancy complications and shares how daunting yet rewarding her journey to motherhood really was.

She started the video by opening up about her struggles with preeclampsia and shared the damaging effects this condition left on her body.

“When I was pregnant with my daughter North, I had a condition called preeclampsia or toxemia, which is basically when the mom’s organs start to shut down,” she says in the clip.

“The only way to get rid of that is to deliver the baby. At 34 and a half weeks, I had to go into emergency labor —they induced me. North was 4 pounds. She was almost six weeks early,” the reality star explains.

Kardashian West went on to reveal that once she delivered North, her placenta never came out and grew inside of her uterus, which is something many women die from.

Though this was a challenging experience to recover from, Kardashian longed to have more children and eventually became pregnant with her son.

“After my daughter was born, I still continued to do the process of freezing my eggs. I was able to get pregnant through that with my son Saint, and then I had two embryos left,” she shared. “I had the same condition, same awful delivery that I had with my first daughter. After that, I had to have five different operations within a year and a half to fix the damage that all of that did on the inside.”

Doctors were against Kardashian getting pregnant a third time

Although her first two pregnancies really took a toll on her body, Kardashian West still wanted more kids, but doctors were fully against her carrying another child.

“I asked my doctors, ‘Can I do it one more time?’ And they were like, ‘We won’t even put an embryo in you — that would be like malpractice,'” she shares.

Since she still had two embryos left, the KKW mogul decided to turn to surrogacy. The star used two different surrogates to carry her last two embryos and welcomed daughter Chicago in January 2018 and 7-month-old son Psalm back in May.

Nearing the end of the video, Kardashian explained how grateful she is for her little ones and couldn’t be happier that she was still able to have a big family despite her high risk pregnancy journey.

“I’m so thankful for my beautiful kids, no matter how they came to me — they came to me. I’m so thankful for surrogates,” she says. “I’m really thankful for my family. I grew up with so many siblings. I just loved being in a big environment. I would have gone through the same pain and back for the result of having my babies. It was all worth it.”

To conclude this video, Kardashian shares the charity she has chosen to support this holiday season, which is the Bail Project.

With this cause being near and dear to her heart, SKIMS will be making a charitable donation to the organization in Kardashian’s name.

“I have seen so many families torn apart by just not having a fair bail system,” the star adds. “It’s really important to me that families are reunited and connected, especially this holiday season.”
