Kim Kardashian West Is On Her Way to Becoming A Billionaire Just Like Kylie Jenner, All Thanks to SKIMS

Whether you love her or hate her, there’s no denying Kim Kardashian West’s business acumen.

She’s carved out a place for herself in multiple spaces — from fashion and beauty to apps and television. Just when fans started to think she had nowhere else to go, Kardashian West expanded into the shapewear industry with a line called SKIMS Solutionwear.

While the brand is fairly new, it’s already seen overwhelming amounts of success. Reports say that it could even make Kardashian West the next billionaire in her family.

What exactly is SKIMS Solutionwear?

The line features items that help alter the shape of a person’s body. Its products include bras, bodysuits, underwear, slips, and more in a variety of colors and sizes.

Kardashian West created the line out of frustration. For years, she would cut her undergarments to fit the shape of her body. But she could never get them just right. Eventually, she took matters into her own hands and created SKIMS Solutionwear.

“I would create my own shapewear all the time to be my solutions for things. I feel like I’ve been designing shapewear for 15 years,” Kardashian West told People on Sept. 10.

“As my style changed and evolved, I found myself altering existing shapewear to work specifically for each look that I was going for,” she added in a press release. “I knew I wasn’t alone in looking for the perfect shapewear and was inspired to turn my passion into something real that works for every body type.”

On Nov. 24, TMZ reported that Kardashian West is confident that the brand will become a billion-dollar business and that the customer response proves it.

Sources told the outlet, “Kim’s massive restock release on [Nov. 20] was actually more successful than the initial launch … netting millions in just minutes.” (The initial launch happened back in September. TMZ reported at the time that the brand had earned $2 million in just a matter of minutes.)

Insiders told the outlet that more than 1 million people were on the waitlist for the restock and that the most popular items sold out “almost instantly.”

Due to the overwhelming success and demand for the products, there are talks to release a male line. Kardashian West also intends to add new items.

If she becomes a billionaire, she’ll join her baby sister, Kylie Jenner, who was crowned the world’s youngest self-made billionaire in March 2019 at the age of 21. Jenner reached the milestone faster than moguls such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg — all thanks to her beauty line, Kylie Cosmetics.

Kanye West also has a billion-dollar business: Yeezy.

The response to the shapewear line hasn’t been totally positive

The line is a hit — but it hasn’t been without controversy.

Kardashian West faced widespread backlash and condemnation in June after initially naming the line Kimono. Many social media users criticized her use of the word “kimono,” which is a traditional Japanese garment, accusing her of cultural appropriation.

As the criticism mounted, Kardashian West announced that she’d decided to change the name.

“My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always,” she wrote in a July 1 tweet.

On Aug. 26, the reality star announced that she decided to call the brand SKIMS Solutionwear.

“My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name. After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear™,” she tweeted.
