Kim Kardashian West Reveals What (And Whom) She ‘Cut’ From Her Old Life to Make Room for Studying
Kim Kardashian West is living a very different life right now from the life she was living even five years ago. After playing a major role in freeing Alice Marie Johnson from a life in prison, Kardashian West realized she had a passion for social justice.
Kim Kardahsian West’s decision to study law
In September 2018, the reality star and entrepreneur announced she was doing a four-year apprenticeship with a San Francisco law firm with the goal of taking the bar in 2022.
Of course, after her big announcement, Kardashian West was met with a lot of criticism. She took to Instagram to speak about why she decided to pursue a legal career.
“I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or my money that got me here, but that’s not the case. One person actually said I should “stay in my lane.” I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am. The state bar doesn’t care who you are. This option is available to anyone who’s state allows it. It’s true I did not finish college. You need 60 college credits (I had 75) to take part in “reading the law”, which is an in office law school being apprenticed by lawyers. For anyone assuming this is the easy way out, it’s not,” she wrote, adding that she’s changed her number and “disconnected from everyone because I have made this strict commitment to follow a dream of mind.”
Kim Kardashian West cut out the ‘extra stuff’ in her life
Kardashian West spoke to Us Weekly on January 18 and elaborated on the drastic changes she’s needed to make in her life since deciding to study law.
“My schedule has really changed,” she said. “Obviously, my kids and my husband are my life, so I just had to cut out a lot of all the extra stuff that I was doing and the friends [I had]. I’m best friends with all my friends I’ve been friends with forever, but they understand. They know I just don’t go to all these events anymore, the movies. I don’t do that extra stuff, and that’s OK for me.”
The reality star also added she “needs to focus” on spending mornings with her four children. The publication reports she works while they’re in school and is “there for dinner.”
Kardashian West also makes a point to carve out time for her husband, Kanye West. She prioritizes “date nights [and] vacation time.”
“I definitely take that time off,” she said.
