The incident reportedly occurred in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and left the reality star and entrepreneur robbed of his $250,000 watch. Though no one was hurt during the robbery, the ordeal left Cheban “really shaken up” as he wasn’t the only victim of this traumatizing crime.
Jonathan Cheban, his mother, and his friend experienced the terrifying incident
On August 2, Cheban — who legally changed his name to Foodgod last year — faced a harrowing experience when he was robbed at gunpoint in New Jersey. And to make matters worse, his mother, Galina Cheban, witnessed the traumatizing ordeal.
The awful event took place around 8:30 p.m. after Cheban pulled into the driveway of his friend’s home. After exited his car along with his mother, Cheban was approached by the gunman.
The suspect asked the reality television personality for the time, before drawing a weapon and eventually pointing the gun at the mother, according to TMZ.
After forcibly removing Cheban’s $250,000 Richard Mille watch from his wrist, the gunman and a second suspect who acted as a lookout fled on foot to a street leading to the nearby highway, Route 9W.
Though a police search for the suspects took place immediately after the robbery, it did not lead to their capture nor the recovery of any stolen property.
Both Jonathan Cheban and his mother are ‘shaken up’
Although no one was injured during the robbery, both Cheban and his mother have been left traumatized by the incident.
“He’s really shaken up, as is his mom. He just hates that his mom had to see this. Everyone’s OK though despite everything,” an insider explained to HollywoodLife.
Though the suspects are still at large, the “Food God” blogger is working with officials to capture the men. He’s even given a detailed description of the robber who made off with his Swiss luxury brand watch to police.
“It was one person who robbed him that had a pistol and another was an accomplice who was on the lookout. Neither robber had a face mask on,” the source adds. “[Jonathan] remembers exactly what the robbers looked like because he has an amazing memory.”
The gunman was described as “a dark-skinned Hispanic male, in his late 20s to early 30s wearing a purple shirt, light blue jeans, and white and gray sneakers.” The second suspect is described as “a heavyset Hispanic male wearing a gray sweater.”
This isn’t the first time Cheban’s been targeted over his luxury timepieces
While an incident like this would leave anyone shaken up, it sounds like it was extremely traumatizing for Cheban as this was the second time he’s been targeted for one of his ultra-expensive timepieces.
In 2013, the reality star was eating lunch in the Hamptons when a man attempted to steal his $500,000 Jacob & Co. diamond-encrusted Royal watch. Luckily, a nearby security guard intervened, and the suspect fled without the luxe accessory.
A few years later, Cheban’s best friend Kardashian West was robbed of millions of dollars worth of jewelry at gunpoint in a Paris hotel room.
Though Cheban wasn’t with her when the robbery took place, the traumatic event prompted him to hire extra security when he headed to Paris Fashion Week earlier this year.
Fortunately, nothing dire happened during the trip.
