Kim Kardashian Won’t Be Moving to Chicago with Kanye West Anytime Soon
Kanye West might have plans to move back to his hometown of Chicago, but Kim Kardashian isn’t exactly on board.
The rapper made the announcement when he joined Chance the Rapper at a September 2018 event for Open Mic Chicago, which supports Chicago public schools. Fans posted a video of West telling the crowd, “I gotta let y’all know that I’m moving back to Chicago and I’m never leaving again.”
TMZ even reported that Kardashian and West have “already found a home” in Chicago for their family, including their three children: North, Saint, and (the aptly named) Chicago. They supposedly even plan to move West’s Yeezy offices to the Windy City from Calabasas. While West’s plan would be to make Chicago their permanent residence, they would still keep their Los Angeles home.
Kardashian won’t permanently move to Chicago
Whether or not West actually follows through on his plans, Kardashian definitely has different thoughts. “Kim isn’t going to move to Chicago full time,” a source told E! News. “She will be spending time there and supporting Kanye.”
To say a move to Chicago would uproot Kardashian’s life would be an understatement. Not only are her businesses located in Los Angeles, but North is attending school in California. Plus, with the majority of their family in California, their kids still get to be surrounded by loved ones.
The source pointed out, “Kanye changes his mind about things often, so she isn’t going to make any big decisions. She is open to spending more time in Chicago, and they are talking about it.”
Kardashian is open to Chicago as a ‘second home base’
While Kardashian doesn’t plan to leave her life in Los Angeles, she wouldn’t shut out the idea of Chicago completely. Another source told E! News:
Kim feels her whole life is in L.A., and she isn’t ready to make drastic changes and move across the country. The plan is to travel there back and forth often, but not be permanent residents. Kanye is planning on spending more time in Chicago than Kim. This has been a long time coming for Kanye, and Kim is trying to be compromise and be a good partner. They have just started the process of looking into buying something.
Plus, a source told People, “She loves their new house and it finally feels like a home to her.”
Chicago has a special place in West’s heart
Even though Los Angeles is where Kardashian and West have planted their roots, we can see why West holds Chicago so closely to his heart. Even Kardashian admitted in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, “[Chicago] is a place that made him, a place that he remembers his family from.”
She also gave insight into picking the name “Chicago” for their third baby. “[West] really wanted his mother’s name. I love that name, too. I just wasn’t sure if it’s so much to live up to.”
Not only did they end up going with Chicago because of West’s attachment to the city, but Kardashian called it “cool and different.”
