Kourtney Kardashian Reveals How Therapy Led Her to Quit ‘KUWTK’
It’s no secret at this point that Kourtney Kardashian is taking a long break from Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She and her family have been regular faces on TV for over 10 years, so it might not be surprising to fans that at least one person ended up wanting to leave.
However, her decision to leave KUWTK did not just come about because she was tired of fame. Kardashian recently revealed that attending therapy sessions also gave her the strength to walk away from the show.
Kourtney Kardashian admits she struggled ‘for years’ with establishing boundaries
In a new interview with Vogue Arabia, Kardashian shared she used to have a lot of trouble establishing boundaries with other people.
“For years I didn’t have that, where I could say no and set boundaries,” she said.
Earlier this year, she also revealed to Health that she had been doing “double sessions” of therapy every week. It has been helping her deal with anxiety, and it seems to be giving Kardashian the strength to walk away from a situation that had been making her unhappy.
“I’ve been taking less time with filming and, in general, with work,” Kardashian explained. “My sisters don’t like when I say ‘setting boundaries,’ but it’s more about a schedule. I try to make myself available to my kids to really be a mom. And I want to be in charge of my time and schedule in order to do the things that are bringing me happiness.”
Kardashian decided to leave ‘KUWTK’ because of her family
Kardashian has spent much of her adult life on TV, and all of her children were also born while she was working on the show. However, at some point, Kardashian realized that TV life might not be good for her family anymore.
In February 2020, a source told People that Kardashian does not want her kids to deal with immense fame at a young age.
“She is happy to be filming less, for both herself and the kids,” the insider said. “As Kourtney and Scott’s kids get older, Kourtney especially feels that public exposure is not really beneficial for the kids. … She feels more and more protective of [them].”
Additionally, she shared with Vogue Arabia that it is important for her to be present and spend a lot of time with her children.
“I always try my absolute best when I’m with my kids not to be on my phone, to be present in what we’re doing, and have those moments where you’re looking in each other’s eyes and connecting,” Kardashian explained.
She continued, “I usually take one day on the weekend where we have no plans, we hang out at the house in pajamas or sweats. We sleep in. I like to not be on a schedule on that day.”
Kardashian will now only appear on ‘KUWTK’ if something ‘interesting’ happens
Of course, as Kardashian has said since the beginning, she is not leaving KUWTK for good. Nowadays, fans should not expect her to show up as often as before since she will be more selective about the scenes she is involved in.
“I have decided to take a big step back from filming and really just pick and choose what I will allow cameras to follow,” Kardashian said in the season premiere of season 18. “I think just now when I have something that I find is interesting to film, or that I would feel excited to film, that I do that.”
