Fans of the Kardashians have watched for years as Kourtney Kardashian struggled to make her relationship with Scott Disick work. The couple had three kids, and a crazy drama-filled relationship that viewers of Keeping Up With the Kardashians had a front-row seat to. Now, years later, we finally have a resolution to all the pain. Disick’s new reality show featured an intimate conversation between the previous couple that showed just how far they’ve come.

Disick and Kardashian got into a candid conversation during a scene from his show, Flip It Like Disick, where Disick admitted he didn’t really know how to parent when he was younger.

“I was just so insecure that, like, everybody would look at me like I’m not cool or young anymore,” Disick, who is now 40 years old, said to Kardashian. “And now, I couldn’t be happier. But I’ll be honest: I would have never imagined driving the kids to school and stuff.”

Kardashian agreed that he behaved that way when they were together. “You told me all the time, you weren’t the soccer dad,” she said.

They both admitted that he’d grown since then, and was doing well as a parent.

“Now that it’s part of life and, like, they want me to be there, I’m happy to be there. You know what I mean?” Disick said.

Kardashian added that he seemed to “not really appreciate” what he had when they were younger, as parents to young children. But she praised his growth. She also said he seemed like he was depressed at that point in his life, to which Disick admitted his parent’s death affected him a lot during that time.

During the confessional clip, later on in the show, Disick continued the conversation.

“You know, I definitely think things have changed a lot and I’m definitely in a different place in my life now,” he said. “I definitely got a little out of control. And, you know, it’s great that I’m still able to have Kourtney in my life, and we can still coexist and raise our three children together.”

What were they talking about in this serious conversation? The extremely tumultuous relationship Disick and Kardashian spent years trying to make work. Kardashian and Disick dated from 2006 to 2015, after they met at a house party when Kardashian was 28 and Disick was 24. The ups and downs of their relationship were documented by the Kardashian reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which premiered shortly after they met.

By 2009, they had their first child together, a son named Mason. After the birth of Mason, Disick’s drinking became a problem, and Kardashian didn’t want him around their young son. When they eventually got back together, Disick proposed to Kardashian, but she wasn’t ready to take that step with him, because of all the hardships they had faced already in their relationship. In 2012, their daughter Penelope was born.

A year later, both Disick’s parents died, leaving him devastated. His drinking and partying became even worse. Kardashian became pregnant again with their third child, Reign, but Disick wasn’t around to help out. He checked into rehab but was soon back to his partying ways once he was out. The couple broke up and got back together several times as they tried to make their relationship work, before breaking up for good in 2015, mostly due to Disick’s constant partying.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick are finally in a healthy place

After the constant drama of Disick and Kardashian’s relationship, it’s so nice that they can get along and have a peaceful co-parenting relationship for the kids. Disick is now dating Sofia Richie, and she seems to be benefiting from the new, calmer, more responsible Disick. But he still has a great friendship with Kardashian and her entire family, even taking vacations together

The conversation featured in this episode of Flip It Like Disick seems to be a long time coming: a final happy ending to all the years of drama featured on Keeping Up With the Kardashians
