Kristen Bell Reveals What Makes Her Marriage With Dax Shepard Work
When Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard first met, sparks were flying but neither one of them expected to one day represent everyone else’s #CoupleGoals. They are both two very different people who love each other and work hard to make their relationship work. Even though the pair make it look easy, they are both quick to point out that it takes a lot of work.
Although the pair were married in 2013, there were a couple of times when Bell wasn’t sure they would be together. When they were dating, Shepard broke up with her because he wasn’t ready for a commitment. He quickly changed his mind and the two got back together.
He also had reservations about getting married. He believed that marriage was no way to prove love and commitment, but that actions mattered more than a piece of paper. Now the couple has been married for six years, and they have two beautiful daughters together. So, what do Shepard and Bell credit for their relationship bliss? Hard work, hard work, and more hard work!
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard go to therapy together
Even though they both have separate and busy careers, and a family to take care of, they always make time to work on their marriage. “We definitely had to work really hard at being a couple because we’re both incredibly, painfully stubborn, and we’re pretty much opposites,” Shepard told PEOPLE.
Both have admitted that couples therapy has saved their relationship more than once. When two fully autonomous people decide to come together, there is bound to be fighting and conflict from time to time. Having a safe space to work through some of those issues helps them consider their partner’s point of view.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard work on their communication
When Kristen Bell was asked about what helps keep her marriage together, she spoke about respect. She’s told media in the past that she respects her husband. She doesn’t always agree with him, but she listens to what he has to say because she respects him and his differences.
“It’s all about contempt. Never roll your eyes at someone,” she toldUs Weekly. “You might as well break up right then because its contempt. I’m telling you — I disagree with him on almost everything, but I have intense respect for his critical thinking skills and the fact that we were raised differently. I always see his point. I do not and will not ever have contempt for him.”
She believes that having strong communication skills will help keep them together. It doesn’t always have to be about talking; sometimes you just have to listen to your spouse, no matter what they are saying. Communication leads to better understanding.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard support each other
Because both Bell and Shepard have such successful careers, they both admit that it can feel like a juggling act. The only way they can make it work is by supporting each other. Sometimes Bell needs to go to work, leaving her husband in charge. She respects him and knows that he can handle things while she is gone. The same goes in the other direction. Sometimes Shepard needs to leave for work, and Bell needs to support him in what he needs to do.
Both have recently announced a new business venture:
Hello Bello promises the benefits of high-end all-natural products, without the high-end price tag. With all that these two have going on, it might seem crazy to add a new company in the mix, but the pair seem to be really excited about it. They also seem to be really excited about their marriage, and what adventures they still have in store.
