Kristen Bell Wrote a Children’s Book — Here’s Everything We Know About It
Kristen Bell is now a children’s book author.
The 39-year-old actress known for her roles in the Frozen movie franchise, NBC’s The Good Place, Veronica Mars, and Gossip Girl is expanding her skill set to include not only singing, acting, producing, and co-founding a business — she and husband Dax Shepard started Hello Bello together — but being a published author too.
Bell announced the book on Jan. 22, 2020
In an Instagram video on Jan. 22, Bell alerted her nearly 13 million Instagram followers to her book, The World Needs More Purple People. The actress and mother — she and Shepard have two daughters named Lincoln and Delta — explained she co-authored the children’s book with her “genius buddy” and creative director Benjamin Hart after “seeing how the cultural conversation skewed heavily toward the things that divide us; the ways in which we are different.”
She continued saying, “And that seemed like an incomplete narrative as there are so many more things that actually bring us together. And, so, The World Needs More Purple People was born! (And I’m very proud of it :)).”
What is ‘The World Needs More Purple People’ about?
The book is about a child’s journey to becoming a Purple Person. But what is a Purple Person? According to the book’s description on publisher Penguin Random House’s website, a Purple Person is known for doing a number of things.
First, they “always ask really great questions.” Second, “they bring their family, friends, and communities together.” Third, “they speak up for what’s right.” Fourth, they’re “kind and hardworking.” Fifth, “they love to laugh.” Simply, “a purple person is an everyday superhero.”
Penny Purple will guide the reader on their journey to becoming a purple person. The book’s description calls it “hilarious” and “joyous.” The underlying message is to champion “the things that bring us together as humans.”
When will ‘The World Needs More Purple People’ be released?
Bell and Hart’s book — a first for both of them — will debut on June 2, 2020. However, it’s already available for pre-order. The World Needs More Purple People is a 40-page book and costs $17.99 for a hardcover edition. According to the publisher Penguin Random House, the book is suitable for ages three to seven. For those who don’t want a physical book, an audiobook narrated by Bell, and an e-book are also available to pre-order.
The World Needs More Purple People is illustrated by Daniel Wiseman who, according to his website, whose previous work includes more than 10 children’s books such as When Your Lion Needs a Bath by Susanna Leonard Hill and Goodbye Brings Hello by Dianne White.
In an Oct. 2019 interview with HuffPost, Bell and Shepard shared their favorite books to read before bed with their daughters where they named Quackenstein Hatches a Family by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen, Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, and Dear Girl by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Paris Rosenthal. We can’t help but think their list of go-to reading material will expand come June 2, 2020, to include The World Needs More Purple People.
