Kristen Stewart Reveals She Was Once Told to Conceal Her Sexuality so She ‘Might Get a Marvel Movie’

Kristen Stewart won’t hide her sexuality to get movie roles. That’s what the 29-year-old actress, who stars in the upcoming Charlie’s Angels remake alongside Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska, said during a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK for their October 2019 issue. Keep reading to learn what someone with an “old school mentality” told her about concealing her sexuality to possibly end up in a Marvel movie plus more on her dating life.

Stewart is undoubtedly a successful actress. She’s been acting since her years as a child and became a household name when she played Bella Swan in the Twilight franchise opposite fellow actor, Rob Pattinson, whom she dated.

According to Stewart, who has dated both men and women, she’s had people tell her to hide her sexuality — which she doesn’t like to define — to get movie roles, more specifically a spot in a Marvel movie, which as we know, can be very lucrative for the actors involved. Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe made $76.4 million in 2018 alone.

Kristen Stewart once ‘informed by an old school mentality’

During her interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Stewart explained an “old school mentality” people around her had suggested she follow, which meant no more holding her girlfriend’s hand in public.

“I was informed by an old school mentality, which is — you want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity, and there are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote unquote ‘lesbian,’ but you also don’t identify as a quote unquote ‘heterosexual.’ And people like to know stuff, so what the f**k are you?” Stewart explained.

She continued, citing a specific thing she wasn’t supposed to do.

“I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favor, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie,’” she said before adding, “I don’t want to work with people like that.”

Why Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson never talked about their relationship

While on the subject of her sexuality and dating — Stewart’s been romantically linked to models, actors, and musicians — Stewart explained why she and Pattinson never discussed their very private relationship in public.

“When me and Rob were together, we did not have an example to go by. So much was taken from us that, in trying to control one aspect, we were just like, ‘No, we will never talk about it. Never. Because it’s ours,’” Stewart told the publication.

The couple began dating after Twilight premiered in 2008 until it became public knowledge she had an affair with director Rupert Sanders. Pattinson and Stewart broke up, reconciled three months later, and officially called it quits in May 2013.

Stewart said she didn’t think about keeping her relationship private, rather she wanted to live in the moment.

“I think I just wanted to enjoy my life. And that took precedence over protecting my life, because in protecting it, I was ruining it,” she continued.

We can only hope Stewart’s comment will prompt Marvel Studios to cast her in a future movie in one of their upcoming phases (get a complete breakdown of every movie in all the Marvel phases here).Catch Stewart on the big screen in Charlie’s Angels when it premieres on Nov. 15, 2019.
