YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul recently had their boxing rematch, this one professional, and KSI walked away with the title. Even though the British YouTuber is the one with the belt, who has the higher 2019 net worth?
KSI background and YouTube journey
Born Olajide Olayinka Williams “JJ” Olatunji in London, England, to Nigerian parents, he opened his current YouTube channel in 2009 at the age of 16.
Using the username KSIOlajideBT, from which his nickname “KSI” is derived, he started posting FIFA gaming video commentary and gained a following. Due to his successful monthly uploads, he chose to drop out of high school.
Within three years, KSI hit three million YouTube subscribers, making him the 25th most subscribed to channel at the time. However, he landed himself in the middle of a controversy after he allegedly verbally and sexually harassed staff at a 2012 Eurogamer event.
The incident caused Microsoft to cut ties with the YouTuber. In 2013, he alongside four other popular British YouTubers formed the entertainment collective, Ultimate Sideman.
Now shortened to Sideman, the group includes seven members who participate in challenges, video game commentary, and sketches. KSI then moved into music and began a career as a rapper.
His debut EP, released in 2015, peaked at number one on the UK R&B Albums Chart. In 2017, KSI claimed he was leaving the Sideman, and dropped several diss tracks towards the members of his former group.
KSI professional boxing career
After he admitted the drama was staged, British YouTuber Joe Weller condemned KSI for his actions. The two began fighting online and decided to settle it in a white-collar amateur boxing match on February 3, 2018.
KSI won in one minute and 30 seconds by way of technical knockout, earning the YouTube Boxing Championship Belt. The fight garnered over 21 million views that day, making it the biggest white-collar boxing fight ever.
He then called out Logan Paul as the next person he wanted to fight. Only a few weeks later, the two fought, and KSI barely pulled out the win. However, it has been considered the largest amateur boxing fight as it earned $3.5 million from ticket sales and garnered over 2.25 million live viewers.
On November 9, 2019, KSI and Paul had a rematch, but this time they did not wear headgear, and it was considered a professional fight. Even though KSI won by split decision, he said he’s “done” boxing, and it’s “on to the next thing.”
Logan Paul background and YouTube journey
Born April 1, 1995, in Ohio, Paul performed well as a linebacker on his high school football team and qualified for the state-level 2013 Division I Wrestling Individual Championships.
Paul decided to go to Ohio University to study Industrial Engineering, but he dropped out in 2014 due to his massive 3.1 million following on the six-second video-sharing app, Vine.
His success translated to other social media platforms, and he decided to pursue an acting career. Through 2015 and 2017, Paul appeared in an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, FOX’s Weird Loners, Freeform’s Stitchers, YouTube Red movie The Thinning.
He was also featured in a promotional video with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. In December 2017, Paul was the center of controversy after he uploaded a video to YouTube showing the recently deceased body of a man who seemingly hanged himself in Aokigahara at the base of Mount Fuji, known as the “suicide forest.”
In the video, Paul and his friends are seen laughing, which caused several petitions asking that his channel be banned. After several apologies and a year-long hiatus, Paul returned to the site with weekly uploads.
