‘KUWTK’: Kim Kardashian West’s Mystery Illness Is Finally Revealed After Lupus Scare

Kim Kardashian West experienced some pretty scary health issues on the Sept. 8 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.  “I’ve been feeling so tired, so nauseous and my hands are really getting swollen,” she explained during the episode. “I feel like I literally am falling apart. My hands are numb.”

Her doctor later told her that she’d tested positive for lupus antibodies and rheumatoid arthritis, but those actually aren’t the causes of her symptoms. In the Sept. 15 episode, the KKW Beauty star learned that she suffers from another condition.

Kardashian West’s mystery illness was revealed after another doctor visit

In the Sept. 15 episode, the reality star got an ultrasound on her hands, where she’s had the most pain, to get a definitive answer on whether she had lupus. (False positives sometimes happen during initial testing.)

“So, today I’m getting an ultrasound on all of my joints to see what’s going on. I hadn’t really felt that kind of pain physically ever,” Kardashian West said of her health scare (via E! News). “My blood test results were so scary, but these ultrasounds will really determine what’s going on with me.”

Thankfully, the ultrasound determined that the 38-year-old did not have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

“So, first of all, if you had any evidence for Lupus, [the specialist] would have seen it. And you do not have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis,” Kardashian West’s doctor explained in a follow-up appointment. “You probably have psoriatic arthritis, because psoriasis comes and goes and there is nothing there right now.”

Kardashian West, who was diagnosed with psoriasis in 2011, could not have been happier to learn that it was all a false alarm, saying she was “so relieved.”

“The pain is gonna come and go sometimes, but I can manage it and this is not gonna stop me,” she added.

But she was admittedly depressed before learning her real condition

When the makeup mogul learned that she could potentially have lupus, she said that she felt scared and depressed.

“When you do have a diagnosis — or you get tested for something and you get a result that you weren’t expecting — you definitely get in your head and for a second you kinda get this little depression of, like, ‘OK, what are all of the possibilities that can happen? What’s my life gonna look like? I really wanna be active for my kids.’ And so it triggers something,” she explained to Entertainment Tonight on Sept. 12.

“I really had to get myself together because I do have kids and I do have a family that I just have to be positive and get it together for,” she continued. “No matter what’s going on in your life, you can take that time to grieve for a second… and then figure out how to be positive about it because it’s not going to change. There’s no point in being depressed and staying in that headspace, but I felt it for a minute.”

She added that she had been on medication and was “just rolling with it day by day.”

Kardashian West also broke down in front of her family

After speaking with her doctors and learning about her potential health troubles in the Sept. 8 episode, she broke down in front of Khloé Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kris Jenner.

“I’m freaking out,” Kardashian West said, crying.

Kris tried to calm her daughter, telling her to “stay really positive until we get some results.” But it wasn’t so easy for Kardashian West.

“You know, you really do get in your head and think about the worst possible things that can happen,” Kardashian West explained. “So, for the next few days [until my follow-up appointment], it’s gonna be really hell…living, wondering what I have, what’s going on and how to fix this.”

Luckily, Kardashian West now knows the cause of her symptoms and can begin to take the steps she needs to soothe her issues. Best of luck to her on that process.
