Kyle Richards Shares Sweet Flashback Photo with Daughter Farrah and Reflects on Being a Young Mother
Camille Grammer might have accused her of forcing her off of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but Kyle Richards has other things on her mind. The day after Grammer tweeted that RHOBH was “Kyle’s show,” Richards was focused on her family rather than Housewives drama.
On August 30, the reality TV star shared a sweet flashback photo of herself with her daughter Farrah. In the Instagram post, she reminisced about her experience as a young mother.
Kyle Richards says people sometimes thought she was her daughter’s nanny
Richards had Farrah, her first of four kids, in 1988 when she was 19 years old. As a young mom, she had to deal with some people’s assumptions about her — including from those who thought she was actually her daughter’s nanny. Some even wanted to hire her to care for their own kids.
“People would come up to me and say ‘you’re so good with that baby. Can I get your number ? We’ve been looking for a good nanny 🤷🏻♀️,’” Richards recalled.
Richards “cannot believe” the body she had when she was younger
Richards — who is now 50 years old — also reflected on the body she had when she was younger. The snap she shared showed her in a midriff-baring top, but Richards says she no longer looks quite so toned.
“Cannot believe my stomach looked like that (has not looked like that since 🤣),” she shared.
“That’s what happens when you have a baby at 19🤷🏻” she added.
Richards has talked about being a young mom and wife before
Richards married and had kids before she was 20, and being such a young wife wasn’t always easy, she’s said.
While she said being an aunt to sister’s children helped ease the transition to being a mom, being married was harder.
“I struggled with the being married part,” she told The Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald in 2017. “Now I’ve got the wife part down, but that’s hard to be a wife at that age.”
Eventually, the marriage broke down. “”I eventually I couldn’t do it and I left, and I felt so guilty for so long,” she said. “I felt so bad. I was just too young to be married. We’re still friends and he’s friends with my husband.”
In 1996, Richards married her second husband, real estate agent Mauricio Umansky. They’ve since had three children — daughters Alexia, Sophia, and Portia.
“When the other kids were little I was a stay at home mom,” Richards told People in 2018. “Now I have a lot of jobs and it really is great to have my daughters being there and helping pick up with school and all that stuff.”
She also said that she’s busy catching up on some of the experiences she missed out on when she was younger.
“I had a baby at 19 and all my friends are in college going to sorority parties. I was married with a baby and nursing,” Richards said. “They’d come visit me and I’d be breastfeeding my baby. So I didn’t do those kinds of things, girls trips. So when we go now I’m like, ‘This is going to be so fun!”
