Why Did Lady Gaga Postpone the Premiere of Her New Album, ‘Chromatica’?
Hot off of the release of her single, “Stupid Love,” Lady Gaga is back with another album for listeners to fall in love with. Well, sort of. The artist has since postponed Chromatica, much to the disappointment of fans worldwide. Why did this Grammy award-winning artist put her new music on hold? Here’s what we know.
Lady Gaga planned to release ‘Chromatica’ during April 2020
Mother Monster has returned. After enjoying a residency in Las Vegas, appearing in the Academy Award-nominated film A Star is Born, and even being a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Lady Gaga shared a new song, “Stupid Love,” and news regarding an upcoming album, titled Chromatica.
Fans got their first glimpse into this iridescent space-wonderland with the music video for “Stupid Love.” Within a few weeks, it earned over 50 million views on YouTube, with some viewers sharing their excitement for more new music.
Chromatica was originally slated for an April 2020 release. However, Lady Gaga has since decided to postpone the release of her upcoming album. There’s no official premiere date for these new songs, but the artist has since come forward, sharing her reasoning behind the wait.
Lady Gaga shared the news with fans on social media
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, and also due in part to the cancelation of live performances, Lady Gaga made the decision to put Chromatica on hold. There’s no word regarding when this upcoming album will premiere on streaming platforms.
“I wanted to tell you, that after a lot of deliberation, I’ve made the incredibly tough decision to postpone the release of Chromatica,” Gaga wrote in a statement, posted to Instagram and Twitter.
“I will announce a new 2020 release date soon. This is such a hectic and scary time for all of us and while I believe art is one of the strongest things we have to provide joy and healing to each other during times like this, it just doesn’t feel right for me to release this album with all that going on during this global pandemic,” she continued.
Lady Gaga also had a secret Coachella set lined up
Also in that Instagram post, Lady Gaga shared some more disappointing news — she planned to have a secret set at the renowned California-based music festival, Coachella. This performance would, presumably, be in conjunction with her upcoming album.
Unfortunately, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival has since been postponed to October 2020. There’s no word regarding if Lady Gaga will make a cameo at this live event, or if her album will premiere by then. Still, fans took to social media, sharing their support for the artist.
“Take your time, gal. We love u,” RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni and comedian Willam wrote.
“Sending you love, we respect this decision very much,” one Twitter user said. More information regarding Chromatica will be announced in the coming weeks.
