Lady Gaga is Teaming Up With This Popular Snack Brand
Even though 2020 has been a rough year for the music industry and live events, Lady Gaga still managed to make the most of it. After flexing her acting muscles in A Star is Born, Gaga returned to the music world — and created a world of her own in the process.
‘Chromatica’ defined 2020 for Lady Gaga
After many years of waiting, Little Monsters got to experience the return of “Popga” in 2020 at long last. Chromatica is Gaga’s first album in four years, and her first true pop album since 2013’s ARTPOP. Her high-energy single “Stupid Love” and the Ariana Grande collab “Rain On Me” have made waves across the pop landscape and beyond.
Gaga described the concept of Chromatica as a “planet” where her mind mentally exists when creating music. The album earned a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards, and “Rain On Me” is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Gaga promoted the release of the album in the spring with matching pink and green merch, such as athletic wear, pillows, and even underwear.
Lady Gaga is teaming up with a beloved snack brand
In her latest album push before the Grammys, Gaga is doing something different and creating a new piece of Chromatica “merch.” She announced on Twitter that she was teaming up with the legendary snack brand Oreo to create Chromatica Oreos — pink on the outside, green on the inside.
Gaga announced the collaboration on Twitter and Instagram. “We decided it was a good idea to have the Chromatica Oreo, which is a pink cookie with green filling,” Gaga said excitedly, showing off the vibrant packaging.
The official Oreo Twitter account expressed their excitement as well, saying the “cookies inspired by Chromatica and Lady Gaga” are “dropping soon.”
Lady Gaga isn’t the only pop star with their own cookies
Though this may seem like a unique brand deal to say the least, it’s not entirely uncommon, especially in 2020. Music icon Mariah Carey recently announced that she’s also making her own cookies. Unlike Gaga, however, Mariah’s Cookies is an entirely new brand instead of a limited edition creation.
Starting December 4, 2020, you’ll be able to order from a delicious menu that includes holiday season favorites as well as flavors that will be available year-round. Customers can order gingerbread, white chocolate-cranberry, and pumpkin cookies for the holidays; classics such as chocolate chunk, triple chocolate chunk, and spiced oatmeal raisin will be available to fans all year. The release date is no coincidence: Carey’s highly anticipated Magical Christmas Special debuts on Apple TV+ that day, which also happens to be National Cookie Day.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mariah’s Cookies launched as a “virtual” brand. This means the recipes and name can be licensed by local restaurants and kitchens in various locations. The concept will be launching in many major cities across the US and will be available to order via food delivery services such as Postmates, UberEats, GrubHub, DoorDash, and Seamless.
