Lamar Odom is getting real about how his drug addiction impacted his relationship with then-wife Khloe Kardashian — and he’s dropped a major bombshell. The former NBA payer discusses their relationship in his new memoir Darkness to Light, in which he recounts one terrifying incident when he mixed drugs and threatened to kill Kardashian.
Odom threatened to kill his wife
Odom opens up in his book, telling of one experience when he used cocaine and ecstasy in his “man cave” which caused him to hallucinate. In response, Kardashian called friends over, which made him angry.
He writes: “Khloe came down and knocked on the door. I opened it suddenly and grabbed her forcefully by the shoulders, which frightened her. ‘What the f**k are you doing?’ I screamed, out of my mind. ‘You trying to embarrass me in front of my friends? I’ll f**king kill you! You don’t know what I’m capable of!'”
He admitted that later he felt “embarrassed and ashamed” of his drug-fueled behavior and asked Kardashian for forgiveness. He called the incident “a new low for our relationship and my life… the most regrettable moment in a series of regrettable moments.”
Odom also discussed the regrettable moment in an interview with GMA, sharing, “I’m pretty sure she had to be scared at that point in time. I’m thinking about it now, like, I couldn’t believe how I was treating that queen like that.”
In the memoir, Odom also discussed his claim of sleeping with 2,000 women, writing: “I had broken my vows with Khloe so many times it’s just impossible for me to remember them all. I don’t know why Khloe stayed with me.”
Kardashian responds… sort of
Kardashian might have been referencing Odom’s book and interview in several posts made on her Instagram Story today, though she often posts inspirational quotes, so it’s not clear if these were aimed at Odom or not.
One story screen read: “I don’t know who needs to hear this but they never were going to change. You did the right thing.”
Another screen noted: “May you have the courage to break the patterns in your life that are no longer serving you.”
Did Odom apologize to Kardashian?
Odom shared in an interview with ET that he doesn’t “have much of a relationship now” with the Kardashian family, but is grateful to his ex-wife for her support.
While he noted, “I wouldn’t call it amends,” he did say, “I’ve spoken to her recently, if you call that amends.”
Odom further shared what he would say to his ex-wife, noting: “I love you and thank you for being there for me when I couldn’t walk or talk. You know, when you marry someone after knowing them 30 days, I don’t think that love will go away. You know what I’m saying? A piece of paper that says we’re not together no more, that love will never go away.”
Odom and Kardashian were married in September 2009, she filed for divorce in 2013, but withdrew the divorce petition in 2015 while he was in a coma. She refiled the paperwork and the divorce was finalized in 2016.
