Laura Dern won the Golden Globe for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ in ‘Marriage Story’
The 77th Golden Globes announced its winners on Jan. 5, 2020. Among those winners was Laura Dern, who earned the award for “Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture – Drama” She portrayed the divorce attorney, Nora, in the Netflix original film, Marriage Story.
In the past, Laura Dern won the “Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television” for her role in Big Little Lies. In 1993, she won the Golden Globe Award for “Best Performance by an Actress In A Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television” for Afterburn.
Her first involvement with the award show, however, was in 1982. Laura Dern acted as a “Golden Globe Ambassador,” escorting the winners off the stage during the award ceremony.

During her acceptance speech, Laura Dern made a joke about her character, saying how excited she was to “give a voice to the voiceless.” She also took an opportunity to address the planet and the current wildfire crisis in Australia.
“My first time here I was 14 years old, it’s a great honor to be with you again tonight,” Dern said in her speech. “We long to be of service to give voice to the voiceless. And thanks to the brilliant Noah Baumbach, I got to do just that — give voice, pay tribute, to the divorce lawyer.”
“I just want to say I feel so blessed to be part of a film that, yes, tells the story of a family finding their way for their child through the end of a marriage, but the global look that Noah takes at what divisiveness is and how we must all come together as one for the sake of something greater,” she continued. “Perhaps our planet, even. So thank you so much, Noah, for the most incredible ride ever. All my love. Thank you all.”
