Will Lauren Graham Be in ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’? Why the ‘Gilmore Girls’ Alum Will Guest Star in the Future
If you’re a fan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, you’ve seen familiar faces from other shows spearheaded by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, as the duo frequently reuses actors to fill in new roles. For example, Alex Bornstein — who plays Susie Myerson — starred as Drella and Miss Celine in Gilmore Girls. Meanwhile, Bailey De Young — who plays Imogene Cleary — appeared as Ginny Thompson in Bunheads. So of course, fans are constantly wondering whether the Palladinos will reign in beloved names, such as Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham — who played Lorelai Gilmore — for Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And for now, the idea looks promising.
Amy Sherman-Palladino wants ‘Gilmore Girls’ star Lauren Graham to be in ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’
“I gotta get my girl Lauren on the show,” she said at the time. “I want to have her on it.”
Sherman-Palladino also revealed Graham already knows who she wants to play in the Amazon series.
“Lauren wants to be something very specific,” Sherman-Palladino said. “She has it all figured out.”
Then in March 2019, Sherman-Palladino revisited the topic of casting Graham in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel when speaking with Entertainment Tonight. And the creator and executive producer hinted a possible role in season 3.
“Lauren made a request, and Lauren is my queen and the reason I have a career, so I honor the request of Lauren Graham. I’m trying to figure it out,” Sherman-Palladino said. “Hopefully [she’ll be in season three]. It would be lovely.”
However, when Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3 premiered on Dec. 6, Graham was nowhere to be seen. But in an interview with AV Club, Sherman-Palladino approached the subject once again. And it seems like the showrunner is waiting to give Graham the perfect part.
“Yeah, we gotta get Lauren on,” Sherman-Palladino said. “We certainly have to do right by Lauren. Lauren can’t just walk in, unless you’ve got something really great and juicy for her.”
Sherman-Palladino also ensured fans Graham’s appearance will happen, as the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel team is already in discussions with the actress.
“But we’re talking. We’re talking with her,” the showrunner said.
Liza Weil appears on ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 3
Graham may not have guest-starred in season 3 of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but another Gilmore Girls alum nabbed a role in the new season. In case you didn’t know, Liza Weil — who played Paris Geller — appeared as Carole Keen in the Amazon series.
Still speaking with AV Club, the Palladinos shared how much they love working with the How to Get Away With Murder actress.
“We always want to work with Liza for the rest of our lives,” Sherman-Palladino said. “She’s a comedic genius.” And then her husband added, “We’ll work with her on anything.”
“We were talking about the character first and then one of us said, ‘Liza would be perfect for that woman,'” Palladino said.
Sherman-Palladino added, “Then it just sort of became Liza. We kind of forgot that we hadn’t asked her to do it yet.”
Even with Weil’s performance in season 3, and hopefully, Graham’s appearance sometime soon, fans will probably see more cast members from the Gilmore Girls family on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in the future. And if the Palladinos have anything to say about it — and they do — then you better get ready to see Kirk (Sean Gunn).
“I’m going to guess that probably, by the end of [The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel], Sean Gunn will have made an appearance,” Palladino said. “If the role comes up and Sean Gunn is right for it, there’s no other Sean Gunn.”
