Lauren Swanson Announces Miscarriage in Teaser for Season 9 of ‘Counting On’

Counting On, the show that follows the adult Duggar children as they navigate married life and start families of their own is set to return to TLC on February 11. The show, now in its 9th season has chronicled the lives of Jessa, Jinger, Jill and Joyanna Duggar as they moved through courtships and into marriages. There has been the birth of multiple children, several weddings and host of changes in the Duggar household as of late, but a teaser featuring Lauren Swanson suggests that a miscarriage is likely to be a featured plotline on the reality show.

Who is Lauren Swanson

Swanson, 19, is married to Josiah Duggar. Josiah, 22, and Swanson wed in June 2018. Their courtship, engagement, and wedding were heavily featured on Season 8 of Counting On. The pair first met years ago through church activities but did not begin seeing each other romantically until January 2018.

They courted for just six weeks before becoming engaged. Josiah popped the question in March 2018, and three months later the pair said: “I do.” While the pair’s relationship seems like a race to the altar, the timeline isn’t particularly uncommon for members of the ultra-conservative religious movement the Duggars adhere to.

Younger sister, Joy-Anna Forsyth entered a courtship in November 2016, and was engaged by March 2017. Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth tied the knot in May 2017. Older brothers Joseph and John-David Duggar also had short courtships and engagements.

Lauren suffers a miscarriage

In the teaser that aired on TLC, Lauren appears in a talking segment were she shares that she and Josiah suffered a miscarriage in October. The pair had only been aware of the pregnancy for a few weeks prior to the miscarriage.

Lauren went on to share that she had been feeling particularly ill in the days leading up to the medical event. Swanson, who adheres to a gluten-free diet, initially assumed she had accidentally ingested gluten, and that was what was making her ill. That didn’t turn out to be the case, and the newlyweds lost their first pregnancy.

Will Lauren be featured in Counting On?

Counting On, now moving into Season 9 is never stale. The show is constantly changing as new Duggars enter dating relationships and eventually marriages. Jill and husband Derick Dillard were unceremoniously ousted from the show after Dillard made homophobic remarks towards Jazz Jennings, according to USA Today. Jennings is a transgender teen who is also featured on TLC.

This season it appears Lauren and Josiah’s new marriage will be prominently featured on the show. John-David has also recently wed; however, John-David has long stayed out of the spotlight, and it appears his new wife, Abby, is more interested in continuing her career as a nurse. It is unlikely she’ll be trading her scrubs for reality stardom anytime soon. Abby Burnett recently applied for her LPN license in Arkansas. Burnett is originally from Oklahoma and was licensed in that state before her marriage to John-David.
