Lea Michele’s Christmas Traditions Include an Unlikely Pick for Her Favorite Holiday Movie

Lea Michele absolutely loves Christmas time. The former Glee star has much to be thankful for this year. The best way to celebrate, according to her, is to share time-honored traditions with her loved ones. Here’s a look at some of Lea’s favorite holiday traditions from food and beverages to her favorite holiday movie and her own holiday single.

Lea Michele’s favorite holiday food and beverages

Michele looks forward to spending loads of quality time in the kitchen whipping up something warm and flavorful for her loved ones to eat. Her go-to recipe is a hearty vegetable soup with lots of potato chunks and tons of vegetables. She can leave a big pot of her signature soup simmering on the stove and everyone can just help themselves.

“It’s something yummy to have on a cold winter day and everyone always loves it,” she said.

On the chilliest of days, Michele loves to warm up with a hot toddy. She calls it her favorite holiday cocktail.

She has a special recipe that she uses that’s both delicious and easy to make. Michele combines hot water with whiskey, honey, and lemon. Sometimes she adds a dash of cinnamon for an extra bit of wintertime flavor. It warms the body and the soul.

What is Lea Michele’s favorite holiday film?

At the top of Michele’s holiday to-do list is to always make time to watch her favorite holiday film. It may be an unlikely pick for some, but for her, that movie would be The Family Stone starring Dermot Mulroney and Sarah Jessica Parker.

In the movie, a conservative businesswoman is a fish-out-of-water when she accompanies her fiancé to his family’s annual Christmas celebration. The ultra-liberal, non-conventional, rustic Connecticut gang does not exactly warm up to the outsider even as she tries her best to please them. Also starring Clare Danes and Diane Keaton, the movie is worth a look this season.

Michele’s choice of a holiday movie may be different in years to come as she now stars in her own ABC television Christmas flick. Same Time, Next Christmas is the tale of a young woman who is kept apart from her childhood sweetheart who she first met during her family’s annual Christmas trip to Hawaii.

With Michele in the lead role, the movie also stars Charles Michael Davis, Nia Vardalos, George Newbern, and Phil Morris. The Glee star actually sings the song played over the title sequence.

The film is set to air right before Christmas and is sure to become everyone’s new holiday movie favorite. The title sounds like it was meant for someone who enjoys and appreciates Christmas traditions.

After enjoying a delightful movie, there’s no doubt the actress and singer will be rocking out to her new recording Christmas in the City. Released in October of this year just in time for the holidays, it’s her third studio album.

In duets with Jonathan Groff, Darren Criss, and Cynthia Eviro, Michele sings “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “White Christmas,” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Michele admits that “Christmas in New York City” is her favorite because she wrote it and it’s her love letter to her hometown of New York City.

Among all the wonderful things Michele has to be thankful for, she won’t have to worry about not being with her sweetheart this holiday season as she married him earlier this year. She and Zandy Reich, the president of the clothing brand AYR, were wed on March 9 in Northern California. Lea says it’s amazing to be the wife of her best friend.
