Lena Headey Nearly Refused To Do This Scene On The Season 8 Premiere Of ‘Game Of Thrones’

Game of Thrones has finally returned for its eighth and final season, and after a nearly two-year wait, the Season 8 premiere did not disappoint. There were a ton of revelations during the season premiere. The remaining Stark siblings have reconnected. New alliances have been formed. Jon Snow discovered that his father, Ned Stark, has been lying to him for his entire life and he finally knows that he’s really Aegon Targaryen.

Also– everyone finally got the news that the White Walkers and their Army of the Dead had broken through The Wall. However, one of the most shocking scenes during the entire episode was when Cersei Lannister had sex with the insufferable Euron Greyjoy.

Lena Headey almost refused to do this scene during the Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere

Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) has been an intolerable clown since he first popped up on the scene at the end of Season 6 of Game of Thrones. From the beginning, he was willing to betray his family to get close to Cersei Lannister. Arrogant and brash –the ruler of the Iron Islands has been very vocal about his desire for Cersei. Though she seemed disgusted by him –tolerating him just for strategy, Cersei had sex with him during the Season 8 opener “Winterfell” and it was really unsettling.

Actress Lena Headey who portrays Cersei on GoT was horrified by her character’s decision and nearly refused to film the scene. Headey told Entertainment Weekly,

I kept saying, ‘She wouldn’t, she wouldn’t, that she would keep fighting. But [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] obviously know what they’re doing and were adamant Cersei would do what she had to do. There’s something to play in all of it. Cersei is such the ultimate survivor in all of this. She refuses to fall to her knees. She goes to the place where she doesn’t want to go, which makes it more powerful sad because of who she’s not with. We had a lot of discussions. Would it be out of character for her to be with Greyjoy for power? We discussed it so much that we almost ended up going, ‘Maybe it’s too much.’ Then we decided to try it out and see if it works. Sometimes you have to show different sides of a character. You have to surprise yourself as an actor but you also have to surprise yourself as a character.

Is Cersei Lannister really pregnant on Game of Thrones?

Cersei revealed to her twin brother Jamie in Season 7 of Game of Thrones that she is pregnant with their fourth child. Considering how terribly that all went the first three times (all of their kids are dead), we don’t know why she would do this. Therefore, GoTfans (and Jamie) are super skeptical.

At first, it appeared that Cersei was telling the truth about being pregnant. In the scene where she revealed her pregnancy to Jamie, the script reads, “She nods, it’s true. [. . .] Her happiness is contagious. They get another chance at family. This time with no one standing in their way.” Also later, when she’s talking to her little brother Tyrion, he notices that she isn’t drinking any wine. (Wine is Cersei’s absolute fav.) The script reads, “Tyrion sees what he sees and knows what it means. He can hardly believe it, but knows it to be true. [. . .] She stays silent for too long, long enough to tell him that he’s right.”

However, in previews from Season 8 of Game of Thrones –Cersei is seen crying over a glass of wine glass, and with the White Walkers and the Army of the Dead breaking down The Wall we doubt that Cersei or her alleged baby will be safe for much longer. Maybe she’s just using Euron as a fake baby daddy?
