Liam Hemsworth Has Officially Filed For Divorce From Miley Cyrus
Let’s face it: Even if you’re not a fan of Miley Cyrus’ music or Liam Hemsworth’s movies, you’re probably at least a little invested in their relationship. After all, it’s been quite a rollercoaster ride over the past decade. But now, it looks as though it’s all coming to an end. Here’s the latest news on their separation and upcoming divorce.
Cyrus and Hemsworth have been together since 2009
As the story goes, Cyrus and Hemsworth met on the set of their Nicholas Sparks romantic drama The Last Song in 2009. They began dating not long after, setting fire to the tabloids as co-star relationships often do.
After being together for a few years, things got serious. Despite being very young, Hemsworth and Cyrus were engaged in 2012. They denied it at first but eventually began to speak about their relationship publicly.
They had an on-again, off-again relationship
Of course, things weren’t always perfect. Hemsworth and Cyrus both have busy lives and careers. This may be what led to their first breakup in 2013. Fortunately, this gave us all “Wrecking Ball.”
However, they found their way back to one another, reuniting in 2016. We soon were treated to social media posts, public appearances, and even interviews confirming their bliss. Cyrus released her song “Malibu,” and everything seemed to be perfect.
Hemsworth and Cyrus were married in 2018
Though it wasn’t ever publicly confirmed, Cyrus and Hemsworth’s reunion seemed to indicate that they were engaged once again. However, there were no hints that they were planning to tie the knot anytime soon. That is, until tragedy struck.
In Nov. 2018, one of the raging wildfires in Southern California destroyed their Malibu home. According to the tabloids, this encouraged the stars to finally make things legal. Hemsworth and Cyrus were married in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family in Dec. 2018.
Their separation appeared sudden to fans
Given all of this history, there was no reason to assume that Cyrus and Hemsworth were headed to for trouble. Even Cyrus’ interview in Elle, in which she spoke about being in a “unique,” “complex,” and “modern” relationship, didn’t seem to indicate anything other than what it said.
But then, everything hit the fan. Cyrus went on vacation in Italy with Kaitlynn Carter and several others, and she was seen without her wedding ring. Their split became public knowledge. Cyrus’ response was to release a new track, “Slide Away,” filled with not-so-subtle hints about the end of her marriage.
Hemsworth filed for divorce almost immediately
The actor, who is decidedly more private than his singer ex, took to social media to make his own statement as the news broke. He kept things simple, writing that the situation was “a private matter” and wishing Cyrus “nothing but health and happiness moving forward.”
This truly sounded like the end of something, and as it turns out, it was. Just days later, on Aug. 21, 2019, it was reported that Hemsworth had officially filed for divorce from Cyrus, citing irreconcilable differences.
