If You Liked ‘Stranger Things,’ Set Your Sights on Netflix’s ‘Raising Dion’
A Netflix series about a young kid with supernatural powers being chased by a bunch of bad guys? It sounds a lot like Stranger Things when it’s described that way, but Raising Dion is a new, action-packed series with its own original plot and magical powers manifested in a young boy.
Based on both a short film and a comic book of the same name from director Dennis Liu, the Raising Dion Netflix drama spans 10 episodes. The plot centers around an African American single mom (Nicole Reese) who discovers her young son (Dion) has various magical abilities – and to top it off, his powers keep changing.

Michael B. Jordan is the series’ executive producer and also plays the role of Nicole’s late husband Mark, whose best friend Pat sets out to help Nicole protect Dion from some bad guys looking to exploit his powers.
All it needs is a release date so we can mark our calendars.
In fact, to avoid overlapping too much with its sleeper hit Stranger Things (think Eleven and powers she tries to keep under wraps), Netflix tabled Raising Dion for a year, according to Hollywood Reporter.
“I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix and MACRO, who I know shares that commitment,” Liu said in a statement. “More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.”
