Lil Nas X Came Out And The Internet Had Mixed Reactions

The month of June is nationally recognized as Pride month. During that time, parades are held, companies change their marketing material to include lots of rainbows, and people of the LGBTQ community celebrate who they are.

New artist, Lil Nas X used this year’s pride month to come out to all of his fans through a post on social media on the last day of the month. Some fans reacted well, while others…

Lil Nas X comes out

Yesterday, the “Old Town Road” singer came out on Twitter. He shared his sexuality with fans on World Pride Day by posting a video of his song “C7osure.”

“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not [going to f— with me] no more,” he captioned the video. “But before this month ends I want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.” He added a rainbow emoji to the end of the caption.

Later, he also shared a video of his album’s artwork which features a rainbow.

“Deadass thought I made it obvious,” he tweeted.

The song that Lil Nas X directed fans to listen to talks about his yearning to live a life that is more true to himself.

“Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow / No more red light for me baby, only green, I gotta go / Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take ahold / This is what I gotta do, can’t be regrettin’ when I’m old.”

The internet reacts

Some people claimed to have already known about Lil Nas X’ sexuality.

“Me looking at anyone who’s opinions have changed on Lil Nas X’s music because they DID NOT know that Lil Nas X was gay,” one fan wrote. “My dude came out of a glass closet.”

The making light of the rapper’s coming out annoyed some fans.

“I don’t care if Lil Nas X is a ~celebrity~ replying with ‘yeah we already knew’ is a real sh***y thing to say to a queer person making the decision to come out! Just say you’re proud of him and support him and move along!” NRP editor Danny Nett tweeted.

“If we want your performance review of how well we passed while we were doing what we had to do to protect ourselves, we’ll let you know!” he continued. “Until then you can sit this one out.”

Other fans were more focused on rethinking what the meaning behind the lyrics in Old Town Road meant than anything else. Many thought that some of the words might have been in reference to the rapper’s sexuality.

The comments got so bad that eventually Lil Nas X had to respond.

“Old town road is literally about horses, he tweeted to clear things up.

Though some people were not amused with Lil Nas X coming out of the closet, it’s clear that his true fans are still sticking with him.

“Meanwhile, Lil Nas X counting the money he made from the straights streaming his songs,” one fan wrote.
