Lindsey Vonn’s Engagement: How She ‘Returned the Favor’ to Fiance P.K. Subban

As readers of Cheatsheet, you get a glimpse into the everyday lives of celebrities. From athletes to movie stars to musicians, we cover it all. So it’s no surprise that celebrity engagements top the list of hot news.

From the ordinary to the romantic, imagining how celebrities pop the question can be like living vicariously through them.

So when one of those celebrities goes out and does something unexpected, it’s hard not to take notice. That’s precisely what happened with ski legend Lindsey Vonn.

In February 2019, Vonn announced her retirement from professional skiing. She had won 82 World Cups, three Olympic medals, and numerous other championships.

With her career behind her, it was the perfect time to settle down. That August, Vonn announced that she and her beau, professional ice hockey player P.K. Subban, were engaged. They met two years before at an ESPYs aftershow, but she was dating someone else at the time.

After her relationship with Tiger Woods ended, Subban made contact again, and they spent four months just chatting and getting to know each other.

But right away, Vonn knew he was different. The trouble was, she’d been married before and wasn’t in a rush to go down the aisle again. But the two couldn’t get enough of each other and shared similar family values.

And when the time came, Subban purchased a beautiful emerald ring that symbolized her favorite color and his birthstone. He proposed at home, keeping things simple. She loved it, the perfect match to the emerald necklace he had given her at Christmas.

Returning the favor, Lindsey Vonn style

Vonn isn’t your typical gal, though. She shared with NBC that she believes that with equality, “actions speak louder than words. Men should get engagement rings too.”

And that’s exactly what she did. In December, she posted a picture on her Instagram showing Subban wearing a large band around his finger. It was their 2nd dating anniversary, and she felt she needed to return the favor and ask him to marry her. Vonn thought he deserved it; of course, he said yes.

The NHL defenseman for the New Jersey Devils has had a fantastic career and is still loving it. In his rookie year, he was an immediate star, scoring 38 points and on the list for rookie of the year, although he didn’t win. Since then, he’s been better than the ones that finished ahead of him for that title and continued to shine.

In his 2015-2016 season, he was up for best defenseman, leading the NHL in points and plus/minus. He finished that season with career highs in numerous areas. He’s also one of the highest-paid NHL stars, taking the 6th spot in 2017. Despite having a less than stellar year this past season, he’s not itching to quit anytime soon, and the two have plans to move to New Jersey.

Lindsey Vonn and P.K. Subban’s future plans

Wedding plans aren’t being made yet, simply because the two are busy with life. They also want to enjoy the moment and being engaged. She told Vogue that they are “not in a big hurry to get married. It kind of depends on his playing schedule.”

She went on to say that she didn’t want to stress him out with such an important season on the horizon – now that’s true love. What is certain, though, is that she wants “to wear something green, like my ring, for the after-party.”

Mostly, she’s just excited for the future.
