Shelton made her film acting debut in the 2008 movie Nights and Weekends. She was a recurring character on the television series Young and American Bodies, in which she played Sarah for nine episodes from 2007 to 2008. She then appeared in the 2009 film Humpday as the character Monica. Shelton’s other acting credits include appearances in Sword of Trust, Maron, and Waxie Moon in Fallen Jewel.

Lynn Shelton tried to ‘humanize’ the characters in ‘Sword of Trust’

During a 2019 interview on the BUILD series, Shelton spoke about her creative process for the film Sword of Trust. She told the host she tried to humanize the characters in the film. “I wanted the people, even the folks who were not our heroes, people who were threatening forces, to feel human,” said Shelton. “I wanted them to not just be black and white. I really wanted them to feel like real human beings. I wanted everybody to be three dimensional to a certain degree.”

Shelton’s partner and star of the film, Marc Maron, added that it’s tough to interact with people who are like the ones featured in the film. “And that’s the thing that’s hardest to accept about the things that are going on, is that these are people,” said Maron. “Because people have them in their families, you know who I’m talking about. It’s just like all of a sudden, it’s like, ‘What happened to you?’ But they’re people. And I hate to say this, but a lot of them aren’t going to return back to their human form. They broke their brains, and they’re probably not coming back.”

Marc Maron shared a moving tribute to Lynn Shelton

Maron shared a statement with Variety, describing how devasted he is about Shelton’s passing. He expressed his love for her and his uncertainty about moving forward:

I loved her very much as I know many of you did as well. It’s devastating. I am leveled, heartbroken and in complete shock and don’t really know how to move forward in this moment. She was a beautiful, kind, loving, charismatic artist. Her spirit was pure joy.

She made me happy. I made her happy. We were happy. I made her laugh all the time. We laughed a lot. We were starting a life together. I really can’t believe what is happening. This is a horrendous sad loss.
