‘Little People, Big World’: Why Fans Think Jacob Roloff and Matt Roloff Will Never Get Along

There are plenty of engaging reality TV families, but few are as endearing and honest as the Roloffs. Matt and Amy Roloff began Little People, Big World as a married couple who both have forms of dwarfism. Together, they had four kids and ran a farm in Oregon, and fans loved seeing what a day in the life of a Roloff was like. Now, family dynamics have shifted, as Matt and Amy are divorced and their kids are all grown up and married — and there continue to be rumblings that the black sheep of the group, Jacob, may not get along so well with Matt.

We know Jacob has condemned the show in the past and left production altogether, but fans seem to also suspect there’s major tension between him and his father. Here’s why.

Jacob Roloff may resent his parents for making him grow up on reality TV

When Little People, Big World first began, Jacob was just 9 years old — and now as a 22 year old, fans have gotten a chance to see how he really felt about the show. Back in 2016, he wrote a lengthy Instagram post regarding why he left the show and will never be returning — and some of his words appeared to be pretty scathing. “For me, noticing how the agenda of the crew doesn’t work well with the health & happiness of our family is what made me decide quite a while ago that I would not be a part of it as soon as I was able,” he wrote. Jacob also added that “the family that is filmed is not my family. They are the Roloff Characters and I have scarcely anything in common with them, nor do I want to be a character myself.”

He’s also written about reality TV in a couple of his books. Radar Online reports in his book titled Out To See, he commented on the illusion of reality TV and how you only see a “shallow character” instead of a real person. Many believe he resents his mom and dad for putting him on the show in the first place, as it clearly seems like it wasn’t the childhood he would’ve chosen for himself.

He allegedly also blames his dad for his parents’ divorce

Matt and Amy Roloff seemed totally solid in their marriage, and it shocked everyone to learn that the tight couple were divorcing in 2016. It seems this was right around the time Jacob was also planning on leaving behind Little People, Big World as well. And Radar Online learned from outside sources that Jacob allegedly had an incredibly difficult time with the divorce — and he may have blamed Matt for the split.

As the insider told Radar Online, “I think when his parents divorced he put a lot of the blame on his dad. His mom was hurting for a long time, and he believes Matt was the sole cause of that — like his dad is the one that blew up the whole family.” The insider added that it seemed like Jacob and Matt were “slowly building on their relationship” after the dust settled with the divorce, but the young Roloff was still “very angry” regarding what transpired.

It appears Jacob’s still close with his mom, Amy

While he may have resented Matt for the divorce, it seems Jacob has always been on good terms with his mom, Amy. While the two have certainly had their differences in the past (particularly with his reality TV earnings), Radar Online notes that the two have managed to move on from their differences and continue having a close relationship. In May 2016, Jacob even posted a loving Mother’s Day tribute to Amy. To that, Amy commented back, “You melt and fill my heart all the time every day Jacob. You are a gift I treasure everyday.”

We’ve also seen plenty of Jacob on Amy’s Instagram, too. She posted a photo of her and Jacob hugging in January 2019 for his birthday. Amy lovingly captioned the photo, “What a gift as a mom to celebrate you and see what a wonderful creative good full of adventure loving young man you’ve grown up to be. I’m so proud of you and love you forever and always.”
