‘Little People, Big World’: Will Jackson Roloff Experience the Same Health Issues Zach Roloff Is Dealing With Now?

Fans have fallen in love with the Roloff family over the years, as we’ve been keeping up with their family for over a decade via Little People, Big World. On the current season, Matt and Amy Roloff are taking center stage as they continue to argue over the fate of Roloff Farms. But fans are equally as invested in Zach Roloff and his wife, Tori. The happy couple has a 2-year-old son, Jackson, who has the same type of dwarfism as Zach. And fans absolutely adore seeing photos and videos of baby J as he grows.

Recently on the show, Zach’s shared that he’s been experiencing a number of new health issues — and it has us wondering if Jackson will also have the same problems since they seem to be related to Zach’s dwarfism. Here’s what we know.

Zach Roloff was recently diagnosed with a degenerative disc disease

Zach has achondroplasia, a form of short-limb dwarfism that can often come with a multitude of health issues according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. The publication notes it’s common for those with achondroplasia to deal with apnea, obesity, and frequent ear infections as well as back pain and spinal issues. And Zach has talked at length before regarding his health issues he dealt with when he was young. He once told Tori on Little People, Big World, “I had to have leg straightening, so I had two casts on. Then I had to go back into surgery sophomore year of high school, they added screws to the leg.”

More recently, Zach has had to deal with new health complications he’s never experienced before. After getting a tight feeling in his thighs and weakness around his knees, he visited a doctor for help — and he got a diagnosis that seems to be quite common for those with achondroplasia. Zach has multilevel degenerative disc disease, PopCulture notes, which caused spinal stenosis. As Zach stated, “It’s a common thing with people with achondroplasia, but average-sized people only get it when they’re like 60.” Tori also admitted she was extremely concerned about her husband’s well-being.

Jackson Roloff has only experienced minor health problems so far

With Zach’s health concerns, many fans are worried about what this could mean for Jackson since he has the same condition. The good news is so far, Zach has stated that his son has only experienced minor health problems associated with his dwarfism. As he told Us Weekly, “Thank the Lord, Jackson hasn’t really had any significant [health struggles]. He’s had a couple ear infections, which can be common with dwarfism. There’s a lot of potentials, but for now it’s too early to tell.” Zach also mentioned they were going to put Jackson through a sleep study to ensure he wasn’t having any trouble there, too.

Fans may remember a few of Jackson’s health issues of the past, too, as Tori has written about them on her Instagram. During a trip to Disneyland, she detailed an incident when Jackson’s nursemaid’s elbow hindered their trip. Not only that, but In Touch Weekly notes before Zach and Tori were leaving for their Disneyland trip, Jackson had to deal with two ear infections as well.

Will Jackson experience more health issues as he ages?

Zach and Tori seem pleased that Jackson hasn’t had to deal with more health problems so far, especially considering the surgeries Zach had to undergo at a young age. Will baby J have more health scares as he ages? It seems likely. The U.S. National Library of Medicine explains lower back issues are quite common, and it seems like Zach’s new diagnosis of spinal stenosis also isn’t terribly rare.

Zach and Tori remain totally committed to giving Jackson all of the love and support he needs as he ages, however. And with Tori’s current pregnancy, we’re all waiting to hear whether her future daughter, who’s due in November, also has dwarfism. Tori mentioned on the show that she’s completely ready to have more children with dwarfism if that’s what occurs, and we know she’ll be a great mother no matter what happens. She found out about Jackson’s condition when she was 34 weeks pregnant, so we’ll have to wait and see what occurs as her pregnancy with her daughter gets further along.
