Will Gordo Be a Part of the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot?

Disney Plus hasn’t even released yet, and it is already turning into a powerhouse streaming service. One of the platform’s most highly-anticipated new shows is none other than a reboot of the hit Disney Channel show, Lizzie McGuire. Just last month, Hilary Duff announced that the show was making a comeback and fans can barely contain their excitement. But there’s one burning question that fans are all itching to know. Will Lizzie’s beloved best friend, Gordo, be returning to the series?

Recently, Duff opened up about what Lizzie is up to in the new series and why now was the right time for her to make a comeback. “Finally being in my 30s, it felt like a good time to revisit her. It’s a complicated stage. That’s what people loved about Lizzie so much — that phase of becoming a teenager. It’s such a complicated but fun part of time to navigate. She was everyone’s best friend. She was faced with every challenge that was relatable,” the “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” singer began.

“Now, I think stepping into the role as a 30-year-old trying to navigate life is equally interesting. Or more specifically, waking up on your 30th birthday and thinking, This isn’t how I planned this to look, what do I do now? That’s an interesting story to me, and that’s a good journey I want to go on with everyone again who was there for her preteen years,” Duff confessed in a recent interview with Vulture.

But that wasn’t all that Duff revealed in the interview. She also confessed that Lizzie is living the life in New York City, though she’s feeling a bit burnt out and won’t be there long. Lizzie McGuire has also landed her dream job working in fashion and is juggling a boyfriend. But if you think said boyfriend is Gordo, think again. Duff admitted that Gordo was, unfortunately, not the object of Lizzie affections.

Are Lizzie and Gordo together

However, it seems that Duff wasn’t as torn up about the news as millions of Lizzie McGuire fans are bound to be. “You know what, I don’t know if I was as devastated by that,” Duff confessed. She quickly justified the statements by stating that the pair not being together was what a lot of their chemistry was built upon. “Ah! I feel like them not being together is what was so good … it’s that one person that you’re like, Was he the one? Is it ever going to be? You’re always kind of wondering. We wanted it to hurt everyone a little bit, and it’ll continue to hurt,” the Younger actress confessed.

Will Adam Lamberg join the Lizzie McGuire reboot cast

But just because Gordo isn’t going to play Lizzie’s love interested doesn’t necessarily mean that he can’t reprise his role as the loveable best friend we all rooted for. But will Adam Lamberg, the actor who played Gordo, be joining the cast of the Lizzie McGuire reboot? So far he has not been confirmed, but Duff is hoping that he will join the cast. “I really hope he’s going to be involved. We’ve been planning out the season and coming up with what everything looks like, and it’s so important for him to be there for part of it,” the 31-year-old confessed.

Lizzie and Gordo are endgame

So whether Lamberg will reprise his role as David Gordon aka Gordo remains to be seen. Though some fans are truly wrecked by the news that the pair aren’t together in the reboot, we’re siding with Duff on this one. By the friends not being a couple right off the bat, we might get to see more of the will they/won’t they dynamic that made Lizzie and Gordo’s relationship so fun to watch. Honestly, as long as they turn out to be endgame, we’re happy to wait as long as we need to.
