‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot: Hilary Duff Shares Photo From Behind The Scenes of New Show

In August, Disney Channel star Hilary Duff announced at D23 2019 that her early 2000s series Lizzie McGuire would be returning to television screens. This past Thursday, Duff delighted fans of the series by revealing three key cast members besides her that are returning for the Disney+ Reboot.

A press release from Disney clarified where the new series will take us: “The new story picks up as Lizzie McGuire is just about to turn 30. She seemingly has it all – her dream job as an assistant to a fancy New York City decorator, her dream guy, and a picturesque Brooklyn apartment – but things aren’t always as they seem.”

Gary Marsh, the President and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, confirmed that the network wants to keep the spirit of young Lizzie McGuire alive while introducing a fresh set of challenges.

“The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can’t wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie,” he said.

Disney’s press release also mentioned that Lizzie “navigates the ups and downs of adulthood” with the help of family and friends. Viewers wondered, then, which family and friends from the original show would come back.

Which cast members are joining the reboot?

Hilary Duff gave Disney fans life this week when she posted a photo from behind the scenes of the new Lizzie McGuire reboot. The picture shows Hallie Todd, who plays her mother, Jo McGuire, Robert Carradine, who plays her father, Sam McGuire, and Jake Thomas, who plays her brother, Matt McGuire. All four actors stand on the brand new set of the Disney+ show, Duff with what appears to be the show’s script in her hand.

“We are standing in what will soon be the McGuire living room,” Duff wrote. “What’s up fam. We doin this [sic].”

“Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake,” confirmed Gary Marsh.

Ricky Strauss, president of Content & Marketing at Disney+ added in a press release: “We are incredibly excited to bring back one of the most popular Disney Channel series of all time along with some beloved and familiar faces, … It’s our honor to welcome the McGuire family into the Disney+ family.”

Instagram love for the McGuire clan was overflowing. The account for Disney+ wrote, “This. THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF.”

Duff’s Younger costar Sutton Foster simply commented, “Yes!!!!”

Will the cartoon be part of the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot?

Now that Lizzie is out of the awkward, in-her-head adolescent stage, fans wondered whether the new version of the show would include the titular character’s animated avatar.

“We can’t lose animated Lizzie!” Hilary Duff told Variety. “She’s the heart of it and the sass of it all.”

Even better? Cartoon Lizzie is still rocking the same clothes.

“She’s going to have the same outfit, which I’m obsessed with,” Duff said.

Duff is busy with her fiancé and kids

Hilary Duff will certainly have her hands full with her Lizzie McGuire shooting schedule and mom duties. The actress got engaged to singer-songwriter and record producer Matthew Koma this past May; they have a daughter together who was born in October 2018.

Duff posted a video to her Instagram Story this past Wednesday, in which she was wearing a swimsuit and carrying her 1-year-old daughter, Banks.

“Exhausted mom tip,” she said, facing the camera as she walked outside with the baby. “If your child eats like a pig, you bathe them in the pool.” Duff then started wading into the backyard pool.

“Not every night,” she said playfully. “Maybe a couple of nights a month is okay, right?” As she washed Banks, she joked, “crushing it on the mom front.”

Duff also has a 7-year-old son named Luca.

“I still have homework left,” Duff said, then breaking into jokey tears, and laughing at herself.

We can’t wait to see how Hilary Duff–and her character Lizzie McGuire– tackle the challenge. The Disney+ reboot is set to come out next year.
