Lizzo and Tommy Hilfiger’s New Collab Is the Perfect Clapback to the Infamous Lakers’ Thong-Gate

Lizzo is one of the most popular rising stars of the past year. She has been attracting numerous fans after releasing hit singles like “Truth Hurts” and “Juice.”

Like many other celebrities out there, not all of the attention Lizzo receives is positive. The 31-year-old singer has been on the receiving end of some rather harsh criticism as well.

Back in December, Lizzo became the subject of a large number of negative comments online. However, she recently had the perfect clapback to those haters in the form of an exciting new collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger.

On December 8, 2019, Lizzo sat courtside at a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. At one point, her song “Juice” came on and the cheerleaders began dancing to the hit single.

Lizzo also started dancing and twerking. When she turned around, she revealed to audience members that she was wearing a thong, which was visible through a big hole in her black dress.

In a clip filmed by the radio station Hot 97, Lizzo could be heard commenting on her outfit, saying: “This is how a bad b*tch goes to the Lakers game versus Minnesota. You b*tches can’t even spell Minnesota!”

A lot of social media users reacted negatively to Lizzo’s outfit. These critics believed that showing off one’s thong was not an appropriate thing to do at such an event.

“Who told Lizzo it was okay to walk out the house with her cheeks hanging out,” one Twitter user commented.

Meanwhile, another person said: “Being in a public place where there’s families and kids with your WHOLE a** out is indecent and y’all know this.”

However, there were also a number of fans who came to Lizzo defense and pointed out that thin celebrities often do not get such negative comments when they wear revealing clothes.

“I hope Lizzo does everything with her a** out at this point,” one person said. “At the very least it will make some question their phobias around fatness and why she triggers so many things a lot of y’all never comment about on ‘acceptable’ bodies.'”

Lizzo also defended her outfit choice at the Lakers game

Lizzo decided to speak up for herself as well. In a now-deleted Instagram  story, she told both haters and fans that she was not going to let negative comments get her down.

“You don’t have to be like me. You need to be like you,” Lizzo said. “Never ever let somebody stop you or shame you from being yourself. This is who I’ve always been. Now everyone’s lookin’ at it, and your criticism can just remain your criticism. Your criticism has no effect on me. Negative criticism has no stake in my life.”

She added: “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been … I’m surrounded by love, and I just wanna spread that love — and also spread these cheeks. And if you really, really don’t like my ass, you can kiss it.”

Lizzo and Tommy Hilfiger could potentially collaborate on a line of thongs

Lizzo seems to have already done enough in response to the negativity surrounding her outfit at the Lakers game. However, it seems that the songstress is not done just yet.

Both Lizzo and Tommy Hilfiger recently confirmed that they would be interested in working on a collaboration together. When asked about which clothing item Lizzo has in mind, she shared with TMZ that she was open to designing a line of thongs.

While it’s not clear whether Lizzo was being serious or simply joking about her famous outfit, we’re sure that many fans are already excited about the thought of Lizzo branching out into fashion.
