‘Long Island Medium’: Theresa Caputo Struggled to Discuss Her Divorce With Her Family
Theresa Caputo is officially back with new episodes of Long Island Medium, and it’s hard to believe she’s been on the air for nearly a decade. A lot has changed since she first started her time on TV, however. While she began the show featuring her husband, Larry, and her two kids, her children have all grown up and taken a step out of the spotlight. And we also know her near-30-year marriage to her husband ended in 2018.
Now, Theresa and Larry are both moving on, but it certainly wasn’t easy. And it appears Theresa’s family also had a difficult time coming to terms with the split. Here’s what she said about it.
Theresa and Larry Caputo are on good terms post-divorce
Theresa and Larry Caputo met when they were young and sustained a marriage that lasted nearly 30 years. But it appears they grew apart, and filming Long Island Medium may have had something to do with it. They reportedly spent less quality time together, causing them to drift — and Larry moved out to the west coast before they announced their divorce in 2018. As Theresa said in an episode of the show, “I’ve changed and he has changed. We’re both not happy, and, you know, it’s hard to try to work through that.”
Theresa is still learning how to live life completely on her own, but she does maintain a good relationship with Larry now. She told Extra back in May that she’s on “fantastic” terms with her ex. “We’re great, we’re planning … our little girl’s getting married,” she added.
Their kids had a tough time dealing with the split
Theresa is making the best of her divorce now, but it wasn’t easy for her kids to deal with, either. Larry Jr., 26, and Victoria, 25, are all grown up, and we barely see them on the show anymore. It looks like we’ll be seeing more of Victoria now that she’s getting married, however — but we’re not sure if we’ll see any discussion of her parent’s divorce on-screen, as the split was reportedly tough for Larry Jr. and Vic to deal with.
“Especially with this, it’s uncomfortable and it’s hard for my kids,” Theresa said of the divorce. “They don’t want to even talk about it with me, period. They know that they can come to Larry and I, you know, if they ever want to talk about it. [We] kind of just left it in their hands.”
Theresa noted her parents also had a tough time
It’s not just Theresa and Larry’s kids who had a tough time coping with the split. This clip from the show exhibits how concerned Theresa’s father was for his daughter’s well-being once Larry was spending time in another state. “With Larry being in California, he’s over here all the time,” Theresa said about her dad. And the clip shows Theresa having a conversation about how life is harder without Larry, as she may have taken the little things he did around the house for granted.
“I think as parents, when something is wrong or upsetting our children, we just want to fix it for them. But my dad can’t fix what’s going on between Larry and I. So he’s over here doing what he can do … just making sure that I’m OK,” Theresa went on to say. “My parents, they’re sad about what’s going on between Larry and I. So my parents, as sad and as hard as it is for them, they are there just loving and supporting us.”
Theresa went on to explain that she doesn’t talk about her divorce with her father or the rest of her family, but it’s because “it’s not an easy thing to talk about.”
We’ll have to see how much Theresa brings up the separation on this season of Long Island Medium, too!
