At the Television Critics Association press tour panel recently, Bloom discussed his new upcoming role in the fantasy series Carnival Row on Amazon. He also addressed whether he would return for the new Lord of the Rings series as Legolas.

“It’s so funny because I remember being on set with Peter [Jackson] is it 20 years ago now?” Bloom said. “He said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to think about people doing a remake of “Lord of the Rings?”‘ This was amidst doing this remarkable shot. I said that’s never going to happen.”

Bloom continued explaining that he most likely won’t be a part of the series. “I feel like I’ve done everything [I can.] I like to think of myself as ageless but I don’t know where I’d fit,” he said. Unfortunately for fans, it doesn’t look like Bloom will be in the upcoming series.

Fans were holding out hope, as Bloom played the character Legolas in all three Lord of the Rings movies, as well as the two installments of the prequel called The Hobbit. The elves of Middle-earth live very long lives, but even still, this new series will be thousands of years before the events of the movies that fans are so familiar with.

Amazon has chosen the showrunners for the new series

Amazon confirmed that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, a pair of screenwriters, have been named the showrunners for the upcoming series. The pair, which have been writing as a team for years, have never actually written anything that has been produced in Hollywood. They have, however, been working on developing the series since last fall. The pair is sure to become household names after the series premieres.

Executive producers have also been chosen, including Lindsey Weber (10 Cloverfield Lane), Gene Kelly (Boardwalk Empire), Tal Yguado, Bruce Richmond (Game of Thrones), writer and producer Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad), writer and executive producer Jason Cahill (The Sopranos), and writer and executive producer Justin Doble (Stranger Things). With a list of names like that and the experience they all bring to the table, the show is sure to be a hit with audiences all over the world.

Markella Kavenagh, an Australian actress, is the first cast member to join the new Amazon series. Details are being kept tight-lipped, but reporters state she will play a character by the name of Tyra, as told to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is set in an interesting time in Middle-earth. The Second Age, which is when the Rings of Power were created, as well as the Ringwraiths. There will a lot of exciting material for the writers to draw from in this new age of Middle-earth. Hopefully fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to the Shire.
