The Lost ‘Big Little Lies’ Ice Cream Scene: How You Can See It

Almost everyone has heard of the infamous ice cream that could have been by now. Big Little Lies teased the exchange last year. The scene was cut after stills of the debacle were released last year while filming the second season.

Big Little Lies is based on the same-titled best seller by Liane Moriarty. It’s a dark and comedic tale of murder and intrigue in a tranquil beachfront town in Monterey, California. The community is fueled by rumors and deception and is enough to have anyone hooked.

Fans of ‘Big Little Lies’ were understandably upset

Fans of Big Little Lies had waited for the moment that never came. The stills released earlier last year showed Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) throwing an ice cream cone at Mary Louise Wright (Meryl Streep).

The scene wasn’t gutted completely, but the epic showdown that could have been was cut. You can still feel the anger coming from Witherspoon’s character when she calls out Mary Louise for her treatment of Celeste (Nicole Kidman) and her slanderous portrayal of her being an unfit parent.

Where can you get your hands on the infamous ice cream scene?

Streep told Entertainment Tonight at the Big Little Lies premiere that the scene would be available in the DVD extras.

“[Reese] just told me it’s not in the show,” said Streep. “It’s [going to be] in the DVD extras.”

True Big Little Lies fans will definitely get their hands on the DVD set to see the epic ice cream scene that was promised. They’ll just have to wait a little longer for it.

Witherspoon even talked about getting her revenge on Mary Louise.

Witherspoon told ET that pelting Streep was “a top five moment in my career, for sure.” She didn’t just stop there.

Witherspoon went on to talk more about the scene on Good Morning America. She told Robin Roberts, “I might or might not have thrown an ice cream cone at Meryl Streep. In a scene, ’cause she made me mad… And I hit her! Like, I nailed it! She turned around and she was like, ‘Yeah you got me.'”

Fans took to Twitter to complain about the scene that never made it

Since a lot of people had expected this showdown to occur and it never did, fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations. Understandably angry, fans will just have to wait until the DVD set is released to see the heated exchange between Madeline and Mary Louise.

The photos of the incident had already taken over the internet last year, and the stage was set for a showdown that would never be. Although the ice cream scene will be available in the DVD extras, it just isn’t the same.

Fans can’t get enough of their favorite moms from Monterey. These characters have a way of drawing you in and watching season one in a single sitting.

Who wouldn’t want to watch Kidman’s character finally trade blows with Streep’s character? And it all goes down at a pumpkin-carving party after Mary Louise shows up uninvited, and to make matters worse, let’s slip that Celeste is renting an apartment in the same building as Jane Chapman (Shailene Woodley).
